BHP Thailand (July 2019 – November 2022) is funded by the UK Government’s Prosperity Fund and aims to reduce non-communicable disease (NCD) burden in Thailand by improving access to safe, quality care using equitable, ethical and sustainable approaches. The programme will accomplish this through the implementation of a set of activities in the following areas: 1) NDC Strategy (strategies to counter NCDs); 2) Health Education and Training; and 3) Provider Performance Improvement. Under the direction of the Country Programme Lead, the Senior Technical Specialist, NCDs will lead NCD strategy in planning, coordinating, and engagement programme activities, with a specific focus on social marketing and front-of-pack labelling for salt/sodium consumption reduction.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads the NCD Strategy pillar, which seeks to support the Government of Thailand to introduce evidence-based social marketing and front-of-pack labelling policies and strategies to reduce salt/sodium consumption.
- Responsible for the delivery of all work packages under the NCD Strategy pillar, ensuring they are delivered with high quality, on time and within budget.
- Leads engagement efforts with the Bureau of Non-communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Public Health, Thai Health Foundation, Thai Low Salt Network, other government agencies and national/international stakeholders to achieve programme outputs.
- Facilitates cross-learning between UK, international, and Thai experts to strengthen collaboration and improve policies/programmes to counter NCDs.
- Contributes to developing annual work plans, routine donor reports, budget forecasts and other documents required for submission to the donor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have at least eight years of relevant professional experience in social marketing and health communication in Thailand (experience in NCDs and front-of-pack labelling is preferable)
- At least a master’s degree or its international equivalent in public health, communication, marketing, or related field
- Demonstrated capacity to advise on, design, and implement social marketing and health communication programmes (experience in programmes related to food consumption preferable)
- Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders
- Experience in interacting positively with co-workers, government agencies, host country governments and counterparts, and international donor agencies
- Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency or private organization
- Strong organizational and programme management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and experience working with stakeholders including government departments
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
- Fluent in written and oral Thai
