Background
Help without Frontiers (www.helpwithoutfrontiers.org) is an NGO that was established to provide aid, help and relief to Burmese refugees and migrants in Thailand and Myanmar.
Since 2002, Help without Frontiers has provided support along the Thai-Myanmar border to displaced people who find themselves in emergency situations from which they are unable to escape without assistance; most of them are children and youth, and we give them a chance for a better and brighter future.
At Help without Frontiers we focus on five core areas; Education; Youth Empowerment; Child Protection; Health; and Community Development.
Role purpose
We are searching for a methodical and strategic grants manager to work with our organization in enhancing funding models, identifying new sources of funding, and developing sustainable and effective grants programs.
The grants manager’s tasks will include managing overall grant efforts, including engaging with donor agencies, reviewing grant proposals, preparing progress reports, and ensuring compliance with grant regulations. Managing grant databases and educating staff on relevant policies and procedures will also be part of the responsibility.
The scope of the role also includes financial aspects, including documenting payments and expenditure, and preparing financial reports. In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to use creativity and initiative in optimizing the grant administration process, overseeing fundraising, and improving business opportunities through effective funding programs.
Key responsibilities
Work with operations and program staff to develop requests for proposals - support potential grant recipients with finalization of project descriptions, action plans and budgets before submitting the grant application
Develop a sustainable fundraising strategy and workplan
Increase unrestricted donors and identify potential new donors
Reach out to potential donors with initial contact and concept notes
Implement online campaigns and produce online content
Monitor grants implementation and build the capacity of program staff to meet grant compliance and regulations
Preparation for donor report writing, and timely submission of accurate reports
Develop plans for alternative means of fundraising
Required qualifications
Must be currently based in Thailand (HWF office is located in Mae Sot)
A university degree in marketing, development, social studies or other related field
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience designing and managing grant awards and associated budgets
Strong budgeting, negotiation and financial management skills
Fluent in written and spoken English and Thai Languages
Experience with managing donor relationships or grant-writing in Thai and English
Advanced skills in financial management and budgeting
Ability to work in a multicultural environment and with people from a diversity of regions, professional backgrounds and levels of authority
Strong interpersonal skills, patient and a good communicator
Strong personal ethical standards
Accountability and the ability to deliver assigned tasks to a high standard and on time
Ability to perform well under pressure
Flexibility to meet changing programme demands, including the occasional weekend assignment
Ability to create trust in work relations and to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to work independently and to meet deadlines
Willingness to travel, as required
Computer skills – Microsoft Word, PPT, Publisher, Excel
