for Consultant Contract Issued by The Asia Foundation
TITLE: Communication Design Consultant
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
BACKGROUND
USAID and Australia Mekong Safeguards Program (aka “Mekong Safeguards”) is a five-year, $10.55 million partnership project between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The Asia Foundation (TAF) implements this regional and bilateral Program which operates in the five countries of the Greater Mekong: China, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. Mekong Safeguards’ goal is to reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of large energy, transportation and water infrastructure in the region. A combined $8.6 million USAID cooperative agreement and a $1.85 million Australia DFAT grant support the project.
SCOPE OF WORK
TAF is seeking a part-time, qualified, and talented professional(s) for the position of Communication Design Consultant to join a dynamic, fast-paced, enthusiastic team that cares for the people and the environment. Mekong Safeguards program is an exciting opportunity to support new and improved ways governments, financiers, developers, and CSO’s can invest and build sustainable energy and transportation infrastructure.
Under the guidance of the Chief of Party and work in close collaboration with Communication Specialist, the Communications Design Consultant will be responsible for creating visually appealing communication products which in some cases may also include captivating music and/or audio narrative. The communication products may include but not limited to reports, presentations, digital video clips, social media materials, website, brochures, flyers, paraphernalia, backdrops, logos, animations, etc. Elements used in the product may include photos, infographics, icons, charts, graphs, 3D models, video, or audio in which the Communication Design Consultant may create or have access to extensive design library. All the designs will need to adhere to USAID and DFAT branding requirements, therefore, good understanding of both donors’ requirements is preferable. The Communications Design Consultant will also be required to provide design related recommendations to the Mekong Safeguards technical team during the activity planning and implementation.
Reporting & Supervision:
S/he will report directly to the Chief of Party, USAID and Australia Mekong Safeguards and work closely with Communication Specialist.
Responsibilities:
Create visually stunning and provocative, popular video/digital and social media products and content that brings to life USAID and Australia Mekong Safeguard’s donors, projects and success stories.
Support the Communication Specialist in designing and finalization of client-facing reports, including annual report and quarterly reports, work plan and program activity presentations, social media contents, videos and animations, brochures, fact sheets, etc.
Advise and support technical team on design requirements for program activities to improve audience outreach and engagement impacts through media products with regards to events, websites, digital products, and publications.
Requirements:
At least 5 years of experience in communications and outreach, public relations, multimedia design, media development, journalism, and/or film.
Bachelor’s degree in media and communications, public relations, journalism, film, media, fine arts, website design or similar.
At least 2 years of experience working in designing materials for USAID, DFAT, and/or international/multilateral donors (UNOPS, WB, etc.) with the understanding of organization branding requirements.
Fluent English speaking, reading, and writing; knowledge of Thai or Lao desirable.
Demonstrated excellence in branding and marketing, including visual design in Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, and similar software; website design skill is a plus.
Demonstrated media outlet experience in Thailand and/or internationally.
Impressive portfolio of media designs used by reputable international organizations including visual story-telling communications/media products.
Demonstrable experience sourcing media content, production and editing online through platforms such as Fiverr, Upwork, whiteboard services, PIxabay, Vivedo, Shutterstock.
Experience with filming editing using Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effect, LumaFusion, or related software for editing digital media is preferable.
Experience in designing materials to support regional policy initiatives or agendas in Asia is preferable.
Ability to work under pressure and against hard deadlines.
