beside healthy, resilient forests. We take a long-term, landscape-based and inclusive
approach to supporting local communities to secure their land and resource rights, stop
deforestation, find alternative livelihoods and foster gender equity. We are the only non-profit
organization of our kind in Asia and the Pacific. We have more than 30 years of experience
working with people and forests, and have built trusting relationships with partners at all
levels. Our influence and partnerships extend from multilateral institutions to governments,
private sector and local communities. Our innovations, knowledge and initiatives enable
countries to foster good forest governance, mitigate and adapt to climate change, and
achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.


RECOFTC is inviting candidates to apply for the position of Gender and Rights Officer. The
successful applicant will be based in Bangkok, Thailand, with occasional duty travel to field
sites in seven countries in Asia. The contract duration is for 24 months with a possibility of
extension subject to funding and satisfactory performance. The position is for Thai nationals
only.

Specific tasks and duties
The Gender and Rights Officer is a member of the Program Coordination and Technical
Services (PCTS) unit and works under the supervision of the Senior Program Officer for
social inclusion and gender equity. The Gender Officer coordinates with RECOFTC staff as
well as technical experts from RECOFTC partners, governments, local organizations and
civil society.


The Gender and Rights Officer supports the integration and implementation of a socially
inclusive, gender equitable and human rights agenda in RECOFTC’s programs and projects.
The candidate will possess gender content expertise, as well as training and coordination
skills, to help design innovative solutions that benefit marginalized groups and achieve
environmental outcomes.


The Gender and Rights Officer’s main duties are:


Gender integration and implementation (60%)
▪ Review project and program documents from gender and rights perspectives and
develop action plans for implementation
▪ Develop guidelines and toolkits to support implementation of gender equality and
human rights into forestry and related natural resource management topics, projects
and programs
▪ Implement activities for integrating gender equality and human rights agendas into
programs and projects
▪ Coordinate training and capacity building events to enhance the understanding and
capacity of RECOFTC staff and its partners
▪ Document and report on progress and learning through reports, case studies and
other tools

Program coordination (30%)
▪ Coordinate with project and program teams to ensure timely backstopping
▪ Organize events, develop agendas, facilitate events and take meeting notes
▪ Prepare monthly implementation plans for gender and human rights
▪ Regularly promote and update institutional mainstreaming of gender equity and rights
based perspectives within RECOFTC
▪ Engage with diverse stakeholders from national to regional levels


Business development (10%)
▪ Support RECOFTC’s Senior Program Officer for social inclusion and gender equality
to strengthen human rights portfolios across the organization and work with partners
▪ Help to secure new business and strategic partnership opportunities for promoting
gender equality, social inclusion and human rights
▪ Perform other tasks as assigned by the Senior Program Officer, gender equity and
social inclusion


Qualifications and experience
The Gender and Rights Officer will have the following qualifications and experience:


Essential
▪ Master’s degree in forestry, ecology, conservation, gender studies, human rights or a
similar field
▪ At least three years of experience integrating gender and human rights principles into
programs and projects
▪ Knowledge of natural resource management, especially with respect to forestry
▪ Experience coordinating and working in teams
▪ Experience building relationships and planning activities with diverse stakeholders
▪ A passion for improving gender equality, social inclusion and human rights in
forestry, land and natural resources sectors programs and policies
▪ Fluency in English
▪ Thai national


Desirable
▪ Experience in RECOFTC focal countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar,
Nepal, Thailand and Viet Nam
▪ Fluency in one of RECOFTC focal countries languages
▪ Experience in designing and implementing a theory of change
