POSITION SUMMARY:

The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) is seeking a Senior Energy Advisor to support the implementation of a USAID-funded multi-year multi-million-dollar sustainable manufacturing program in the lower Mekong Region. Aiming to strengthen the lower Mekong region as a competitive and environmentally sustainable manufacturing hub, the program features private-sector engagement to drive the adoption of improved Business Development standards by factories in the food processing, electronics and textiles sectors. The program focuses primarily on Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, with both country-specific and region-wide activities.
Drawing on extensive private sector experience and knowledge of sustainable manufacturing in the region, the Senior Energy Advisor will lead the implementation of the program in Thailand, engaging finance as a driver for clean energy investment at scale, and developing and implementing strategies and initiatives to catalyze financing across the region. The Advisor will assist the Deputy Chief of Party in leading the program’s energy-related capacity building and technical assistance initiatives for manufacturers. The Advisor will also assist the DCOP in identifying and pursuing business development opportunities in the Mekong region.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies, deliver pilots and relevant training in Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam in coordination with global brands and their suppliers.
Conduct energy performance assessment, a factory-specific value proposition for clean energy and climate investment and guidelines that provide other manufacturers with practical information and actionable steps to improve clean energy practices.
Provide inputs for case studies, success stories, and represent ISC and MSMA in conferences, and webinars.
Identify and pursue energy-related business development opportunities in Mekong region.
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with government counterparts, donor organizations, private sector and local and regional partners.
Work closely with ISC United States organizational and programmatic leadership as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated capabilities in working effectively with the private sector, and in-depth knowledge of the lower Mekong region.
Experience working in clean energy strategies, capacity building and conducting energy performance assessment in Thailand, Cambodia and/or Vietnam.
Experience with supporting factories to secure finance for sustainability investments, including practical skills in working with banks, non-banking financial institutions, and donors in increasing access to finance.
Knowledge of greenhouse gas emission and energy trading scheme, carbon credit and other verification carbon standards in the region. Familiarity with the major carbon project types.
Work experience in Mekong region with USAID is preferred.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A master’s degree in sustainability, finance, engineering, or relevant field.
Minimum of 15 years relevant experience successfully addressing environmental sustainability, particularly in climate change and energy areas with the private sector in the region.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently.
Fluent in spoken and written English.
Work authorization in Thailand required.
