Background
WWF-Greater Mekong – on the ground in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam – is working to conserve the region’s biodiversity and build a secure and sustainable future for people and wildlife. We helped establish conservation programmes in Thailand in the early 1980s, have been active in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam since 1990, and more recently, in Myanmar in 2015. WWF-Greater Mekong works with government, industry and civil society partners to ensure that the region’s natural resources and biodiversity are preserved for future generations.
We are seeking for a talented, ambitious, energetic and people-oriented Senior Communications Manger to build up our brand recognition in Thailand, to grow public engagement and to tell impactful stories internally in WWF global network and externally with funding partners.
The Senior Communications Manager will be responsible for developing a strategic communications plan for WWF Thailand that includes thematic and fundraising campaigns that ensure strong brand awareness which translated into public engagement and fundraising opportunities. The Senior Communications Manager also provides communication services to support WWF Thailand’s conservation programs and support donor relations. The position is responsible for developing and implementing a range of communications, media and marketing projects. Digital communications and digital marketing experience are necessary to be successful in this role.
I. Major Function
The Senior Communications Manager leads the day to day implementation of communications strategies to advance WWF-Thailand’s conservation agenda through targeted communications that reach and catalyze support and change in key constituencies; building and maintaining a positive profile for our work through impactful media and outreach across key external online and offline communications channels; delivering compelling stories and events that reinforce WWF’s brand, while managing regular and efficient sharing and exchange of information through effective internal communications.
II. Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the communications strategy for WWF-Thailand, ensuring integration and alignment with the country office strategy, and targeting key audiences to build profile and support for WWF-Thailand’s work.
- Lead the development and implementation of content and digital strategies, ensuring WWF-Thailand’s digital channels are up-to-date, relevant and engaging. Establish a regular flow of compelling stories – delivered across various communications channels, that bring to life our work, engage media and donors, and enhance online communications.
- Lead the development of a media outreach strategy including positive working relationships with targeted online, print and broadcast journalists, editorial writers, bloggers and columnists, including maintenance of a media contact database. Oversee media activities, including press conferences, one-to-one briefings, press releases. Establish monitoring and evaluation of media coverage and reach.
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with donor offices and the wider network, ensuring communications requests are actioned and content is shared expediently maintaining WWF-Thailand’s profile as a leading and trusted country office.
- Work closely with the Conservation team to build positive, collaborative working relationships with the conservation teams. Support communications for events as required and manage delivery of communications content including reports, briefings, factsheets, project profiles, in Thai and English, and coordinate production (design and printing), in line with WWF’s brand guidelines.
- Subject to campaign scope and availability, support the development and implementation of conservation campaigns, including working with creative agencies, outreach to partners, digital and actual activities and events.
- Provide a “radar function” on emerging issues, both as communications opportunities and as potential crises and brand attacks. Work with appropriate internal stakeholders to formulate responses, as well as prepare and update materials such as Q&As and messaging.
- Use and promote rigorous communications planning approaches and tools, contribute to WWF’s communications calendars and engage in forward planning efforts.
- Prepare communications progress reports on a timely basis, as mutually agreed, with the CEO, Conservation Director, and Asia Pacific Head of Communications.
III. Minimum Qualifications
- University degree in communications, media, marketing or related subject. In the absence of a degree, extensive professional experience and proven results in those areas;
- At least 7 years relevant professional experience;
- Proven track record in communications management

- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop relationships with a wide range of audiences.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, supported by good computer and digital skills
- Familiarity with online and social media
- Articulate, creative, passionate, flexible with attention to detail
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Self-driven with ability to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment
- Interest in conservation and environmental issues
- Experience working for an NGO or international environmental organization is desirable
- Experience of communications in support of policy advocacy and campaigns is desirable
