Position Title : Project Assistant

Duty Station : Mae Sot, Thailand

Classification : General Service (G4, THB 61,967.50 per month)

Type of Appointment : One Year Fixed-Term, Initial 12 months with possibility of extension

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

 

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the successful candidate will support the implementation of Migration Health Unit’s projects in IOM Thailand’s Mae Sot Office.

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

 

  1. Assist Project Coordinator in liaising with implementing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) partners and in preparing the Project Implementation Service Contracts for the Active Case Finding (ACF) and Screening for Tuberculosis (TB) in Mae La Temporary Shelter, Tak Province.

 

  1. Assist in organizing capacity building trainings for volunteer health workers and multi-stakeholder meetings, which include, but not limited to, liaising with training venues and health officials on administrative and logistical arrangement;

 

  1. Travel to project implementation areas and support organization of trainings if need be;

 

  1. Support the Migration Health Unit in liaising with health officials by scheduling meetings and preparing meeting materials;

 

  1. Assist Community Health Workers in target locations in preparation of conducting active case finding among refugee communities;

 

  1. Liaise with in-house operational support (Procurement, Finance, Operations, and HR units) in term of administrative and financial issues e.g. Travel Authorization, Purchase Requisition, Payment Request, etc.;

 

  1. Carry out informal translation of documents (English to Thai) and other communications/materials as required, and assist in selecting the tools and methodologies to be used for engaging refugee communities in raising awareness about TB, prevention and treatment services;

 

  1. Assist Project Coordinator in following up treatment status of who are diagnosed with TB;

 

  1. Support the donor reporting by regularly collecting data and updates from the Community Health Workers ; and

 

  1. Perform such other duties and travels as may be assigned by the direct supervisor.

 

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

Education:

 

High school diploma with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience.

 

 

Experience:

 

  • Experience with project implementation, monitoring and reporting Ability to work in a multicultural environment and respect diversity

  • Working experience in area relevant to migration and/or human rights issues for nongovernmental organizations, international governmental organizations or government institutions is a strong asset

 

Skills:

  • Excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills

  • Strong organizational, coordination and time management skills and ability to produce quality work to set deadlines

  • Teamwork oriented but with a capacity to work independently

  • Computer literate

Languages:

 

  • Required: Fluency in English and Thai

 

  • Desirable: Working Knowledge of Karen and/or Burmese

Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
