The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome Trust, UK. The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalised populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in the Mae Sot area, Tak province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

The post holder will be based at SMRU office in Mae Sod and will move to Mae Ra Mat by the end of 2022. There may occasionally be a requirement to work at the migrant clinics and field visits depending on the situation.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Communicate and work effectively for TB program and cooperatively with other department/medical doctor on different project/study.
  • Develop, design, and implementation of database structure and recording documents.
  • Ensure that documents from TB program running in TB Clinics and are gathered, organized and data are entered into database.
  • Ensure that data cleaning process has one as a monthly basic and make sure that data are cleaned and accurate.
  • Oversee data collection, data entry, regular data check, analyze findings, identify methods to use results for reporting and program improvement Regular monitoring, conduct data analysis, and propose any initiative that may be necessary
  • Preparation monthly statistical reports, quarterly and narrative reports for submission to Program Director/Other NGOs.
  • Ensure that management between TB department/project and site IT team remains current and accurate.
  • Conduct regular field visits to clinics, program activities and do data quality assessment to ensure that the reported data is accurate and in line with standard indicators, planning tools, and log frame
  • Provide regular feedback to clinics and data teams and timely follow up
  • Provide on-site coaching to data and TB program staff regarding data collection, accuracy and analysis to ensure action plans are implemented
  • Act as a focal technical person to organize/provide training, feedback and sharing sessions on reporting to clinics program and data teams
  • Support all SMRU operation team, offices and clinic in finding and using new technologies for better information and data management. Ability to gain an understanding of operational processes and needs as it relates to technology and work effectively with operational staff in the coordination of IT projects and identifying operational technology needs.
  • Facilitate the development and monitor the implementation of an office-by-office, on-going IT hardware and software maintenance, security, inventory and insurance plan.
  • Recommends appropriate maintenance strategies to ensure uninterrupted systems usage and proper backup and recovery procedures.
  • Overall project planning and coordination. Ensure that project plan outcomes and timelines are managed and met.
  • Maintain, evaluate, analyse and manage input from IT project committees and user feedback (start-up, process and end).Helps business operations utilize information systems to improve efficiency.

  • Contribute in research proposal development, data management, analysis, produce result and write-up manuscripts
  • Provide technical inputs into the design and implementation of TB program monitoring and evaluation system, policies, tools and process in aligned with SMRU data policies
  • Perform any other duty as may be requested by the supervisor

Essential Criteria

  • 5-year minimum experience in working with Microsoft Access database, Information Technology management, in installing, administering and maintaining Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL Server, System/Network management.
  • Experiences in using the statistical software Stata (compulsory), R programming (desirable)
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s or Master degree in related field or Public Health
  • Desirable working experiences in TB, HIV/AIDS and malaria projects and emergency responses
  • Up-to-date knowledge and skills on latest developments in the IT systems field.
  • Organize data by creating query and providing report.
  • Fluent in English.  Thai, Karen and Burmese will be an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work with multiple levels of staff.
  • Ability to manage, train and support staff in IT.
  • Ability to travel to remote clinic areas.
  • The ability to motivate and lead a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Good in relationship
  • Motivated and able to work under pressure.
  • Good writing and analytical skills
  • Ready to any assignment required by the unit

Desirable Criteria

  • Ability to work independently as well in a team in a multi-cultural work environment.
  • Experience in Database development using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Effective liaison experience with external organisations.
  • Motivation and interesting in self-learning
  • Experience in working with other database software is a Plus.
