The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome Trust, UK. The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalised populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in the Mae Sot area, Tak province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

The post holder will be based at SMRU office in Mae Sod and will move to Mae Ra Mat by the end of 2022.

Report to:           Chief Operating Officer/Administration and Chief Financial officer

Staff under supervision: Accountants, Finance Assistants, Accounting assistant manager

Tasks and responsibilities

• Supervise and manage all aspects of day-to-day operations of the accounting department
• Review all payment documents for accuracy and completeness in compliance with policies.
• Review and update Standard of Procedures related to Finance and accounting issues
• Oversee the disbursements and ensure that all expenditures are in line with the budgets and grant requirements.
• Verify the financial documents and prepare a financial report of each grant, management report
• Supervise, review, and record the transactions of every grant.
• Record and review monthly payroll and process payments.
• Record or review income journal
• Review bank transactions and month-end reconciliation
• Prepare cost analysis and provide analysis results to assist the management committee in decision-making and financial initiatives.
• Coordinate with other department heads and prepare cash forecast, cash flow analysis, and budget planning.
• Mainly coordinate with the auditor and close all the gaps and auditor’s concerns
• Other assignments as requested

Essential Criteria

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting
• 5 – 7 years of experience in a senior financial function
• Able to communicate in English both in writing and speaking
• Karen is preferable
• Be able to locate in Mae Sot and work on Saturday as required
• Proficient user of Microsoft office ( Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
• Analytical skills
• Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
