Community Partners International (CPI) is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities in Asia to meet their essential health, humanitarian and development needs. Founded by U.S. doctors in 1998, the organization has grown to serve more than one million people each year. Community Partners International focuses on helping communities affected by conflict, violence, and displacement, in remote and hard-to-reach contexts, and marginalized by poverty and exclusion.
The Local Empowerment and Resilience Network (LEARN) Activity is a 5-year, USAID-assisted project that aims to empower citizens and communities in southeast Myanmar by developing and strengthening collaboration between civil society, ethnic service providers, and local administration/community-established governance structures to increase local agency, encourage social cohesion, and address community needs and concerns.
CPI is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Communications Manager for the LEARN Activity. The Communications Manager will develop and implement comprehensive external communications campaigns supporting the LEARN project to increase public support for and engagement in LEARN efforts, and contribute to reporting to donors on achieved results. The Communications Manager will directly engage with CPI project’s staff, consortium partners, and local implementing partners to plan and coordinate the dissemination of announcements, write and edit copy for reports, presentations, websites, fact sheets, and other materials for a variety of audiences. The Communications Manager will also support activities to build the communications and outreach capacity of local CSO and ethnic service providers in southeast Myanmar to develop effective communication strategies. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Party.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the development and/or management of the project’s approved Branding and Marking Plan according to USAID rules and regulations.
Lead the development and manage the implementation of the LEARN Activity’s strategic communications and outreach strategy
Work with CPI staff, LEARN consortium partners, local implementing partners, and vendors to ensure the compliance of all project-related materials with USAID regulations and CPI policies
Lead the writing, production, and editing of the project’s quarterly and annual reports for submission to USAID, by coordinating, consolidating, and ensuring coherence of inputs from all LEARN teams and consortium partners, and ensuring high-quality and timely submission to USAID
Draft briefing materials, fact sheets, and PowerPoint presentations for external stakeholders.
Develop and implement comprehensive external engagement and communications campaigns for specific programs and grantees under the LEARN activity
Identify and recommend media engagement opportunities, and develop press releases and other public communication materials related to the project
Build strategic relationships with relevant media and other networks to leverage support in generating public awareness about LEARN-related issues, delivering advocacy activities, or disseminating key messages, project accomplishments, and other information through the media
Identify and document key accomplishments, learning opportunities, and findings of project activities to highlight through communication channels to increase the accessibility and utilization of project information
Develop copy for the project’s online platforms (e.g., LEARNing Hub), website, and social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Manage web-based and other communication channels for the project to increase outreach to stakeholders and access to LEARN resources
Produce data visualizations and infographics, videos, and other communication products related to project activities
Provide effective supervision for Communications Coordinator(s) to ensure high-quality, timely delivery of communications materials, including monitoring and evaluation of staff performance and providing supportive guidance
Provide communications support to LEARN staff, including editing, formatting, and re-packaging of technical information for appropriate communication to different audiences.
Contribute to LEARN activities to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders (local change agents, CSOs, ethnic service providers) to develop and implement effective public communication activities
Organize and facilitate important functions such as launching ceremonies, workshops, learning and dissemination events, donor visits, and other key project-related events
Any other tasks assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party (supervisor)
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or other related fields, and a minimum of 5 years of experience working on strategic communications activities related to social or political concerns
Demonstrated proficiency with the development of communications materials (reports, social media campaigns, etc.)
Experience working with donor-funded projects and familiarity with clearance and approval processes
Experience building relationships and communicating with a broad range of stakeholders including donors, international and local NGOs, CSOs, and ethnic service providers
Experience developing communication materials using programs like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Piktochart, Prezi, etc.
Experience developing and maintaining social media tools (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Experience tailoring messaging to different audiences
Strong understanding of development and humanitarian trends and issues
High proficiency in written and spoken English
Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary work environment
Highly motivated, able to work well under pressure, and independent
Flexibility and willingness to travel in LEARN project areas
Fluency in Myanmar language.
Preferred skills:
Prior experience working with USAID or for a USAID grantee, and familiarity with USAID communications policies
Master’s degree (or 7 years of relevant experience) in a relevant field
Prior experience working with ethnic service providers and CSOs in southeast Myanmar
Experience in web development/management
