Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) Thailand country program was established in 1976 to assist refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and currently assists refugees and migrants from Burma. IRC Thailand operates as one of the largest and programmatically diverse humanitarian organizations providing essential services to displaced populations in Thailand. Assistance programs encompass health, education, institutional capacity building, gender-based violence prevention, water and sanitation, income generation, advocacy, protection, legal assistance, and resettlement program.
Job Overview/Summary:
- To maintain or, where possible, improve the health status of 7,000+ refugees in Tham Hin camp through the provision of quality primary health care services and health education and promotion services
- Provide technical support to camp-based medical staff in the management of clinic patients (OPD, IPD)
- Collaborate with the Senior Medic, Nurses and Medical Referral Officer, to ensure patients are provided quality health care
- Prepare and conduct integrated camp-based medic ref training in accordance with needs assessment
Major Responsibilities:
- Upgrade and maintain the quality of clinical care at the camp clinic. Visit the camp clinic regularly (at least three times a week) and support medics and nurses to provide appropriate treatment and quality medical care to all IPD patients.
- Support medics and midwives in managing severe or complex OPD, obstetric and gynecological cases.
- Ensure appropriate and on time referral of patients to Thai hospitals for secondary or tertiary medical care.
- Conduct bedside teaching and on-service training to medics and nurses in accordance with training need.
- Conduct regular visit to Thai hospitals to ensure patients are receiving appropriate treatment and to discuss ongoing medical and palliative care for patients with chronic illnesses.
- Provide support to HIS staff and medics in weekly/monthly data collection and reporting.
- Collaborate with the provincial and district MOPH in the control and prevention of epidemic prone communicable diseases such as dengue fever, malaria, diarrhea etc
- Conduct annual survey
- Perform other duties as requested
Job Requirements:
Education: Medical Doctor, At least 3 years experience in clinical care especially in low resource setting.
Other Desirable Skills, Knowledge or Experience:
- Tropical medicine/MPH
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Critical thinking and analytical skills
- Computer literate
- Experience with refugee settings
- Leadership skills / team work
