Job Title:         Education Project Officer            
Reports to:      Urban Education Project Director, Thailand
Location:         Bangkok, Thailand

 

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people.  The organisation was founded in November 1980 and is present in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. The style of JRS service is direct and personal, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term wellbeing of refugees and displaced persons, while not neglecting their immediate and urgent needs. JRS offers opportunities to a wide variety of staff, local and international, while maintaining a realistic and localised scheme of salary/stipend, insurance, etc.  
In Thailand, JRS manages four programmes spread throughout urban and rural areas serving refugees and asylum seekers. JRS Thailand country office is in Bangkok, with Project offices Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang and in Bangkok. Role:

The Education Project Officer is responsible for facilitating, supporting education activities and help managing the financial resources of the project under the supervision of Project Director. The project has three main components: a) English and Thai language course, b) vocational and digital skills training, and c) internship and scholarship program. He / She will help the project team in implementing day to day activities of the project. The two core staff members will work closely with JRS-URP and the Country Office in implementing the services for refugees and asylum seekers in Bangkok area.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Education

  • Support Thai, English, and Graphic Design teachers in setting up their teaching activities and materials.
  • Support the students by providing information in accessing appropriate educational opportunities and counseling. Seeking internships opportunities and scholarship program for students enrolled in UEP.
  • Support team to organize community activities and Social Emotional Learning session in Bangkok refugee’s community centers. 
  • Conduct overall monitoring, coaching and evaluation of JRS education activities in the urban context within Bangkok and give recommendations as well as technical inputs as necessary. 
  • Assist team in collecting and analyzing accurate data, systematic filing and giving recommendations based on the data analysis. 
  • Work with the UEP Education team, Country Office and Education Specialist to set up the UEP Handbook.
  • Collaborate to ensure good communication and trusting relationship between JRS and stakeholders, in a supportive and cooperative fashion.
  • Respect and consider cultural differences in all decision making by ensuring community responsibility and participatory approach.
  • Support the direct implementation of activities in all areas of work whenever possible. Demonstrate as a positive model being in charge and supporting JRS activities.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other JRS team members, CBOs and NGOs especially those working in the urban context within Thailand. 
  • Actively participate in regular partnership meetings with stakeholders. Attend meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director and the Country Director

 

Administration and Finance 

  • Handle and process for Petty Cash and do the clearance.
  • Process and make payments as provided in the approved budget after ensuring that proper authorization is obtained for all disbursements (bills, office rental fees). 
  • Recording of all transactions in Front End and ensure proper filing system with supporting documentation for all transactions. 
  • Purchasing stationary as needs for the office and materials for the project
  • Monitoring the maintenance of the office equipment’s
  • Perform other tasks as required by Project Director and Thailand Country Office.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Thai Nationality
  • Fluent in Thai and English.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in social work, education, social science or related profession.
  • Experience in education, curriculum development and teacher development are required.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is highly desirable.
  • Adaptability, patient, self-motivated, and service minded.
  • Understanding of and empathy with refugee communities. 
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural with limited resources and challenging environments.
  • Good computer skills.

 

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with the team.
