The Asia Foundation, a nonprofit international development organization committed to improving lives across a dynamic and developing Asia, is seeking a qualified short-term consultant to provide ad-hoc graphic design services to the Thailand office, Program Strategy Innovation and Learning Team.  The consultation period will be up to 25 days during August – December 2015, with the possibility of extension depending on need and mutual agreement between both parties.

Candidates should be professionals with specific graphic design expertise, including but not limited to cover design and in-text lay-out expertise for: public publications and reports, research papers and short policy briefs and think pieces. Previous experience with publications or reports for donor audiences and on development issues is preferred.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a relevant qualification/s in graphic design or a closely related field such as photography or illustration.

A minimum of 4-5 years of graphic design expertise and/or experience in producing print media publications.

Proven technical experience and demonstrated skills in graphic design for print media, including cover design options, in-text formatting and graphics, data tables and referencing.

A demonstrated eye for detail and consistency is preferred, as is the ability to work efficiently and to tight timeframes.

Proven effectiveness in balancing client preferences with optimal design outcomes.

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required.

Strong oral and written communication skills in English required.

Previous experience with research publications or producing reports for donor audiences is preferred.

Familiarity with The Asia Foundation’s design and branding preferences is desirable.

Candidates based in Thailand or the South and SE Asia region desirable.

Essential Skills

All candidates must be able to demonstrate technical expertise and demonstrated skills in graphic design for print media and/or web. Excellent consulting and client management skills are required including: interpersonal and organisational skills, strong written and oral English skills and an ability to work efficiently and to tight deadlines.

Desirable skills include but are not limited to: previous experience on publications or reports for donor audiences, familiarity and experience working on Asian-related publications or reports, and familiarity The Asia Foundation’s preferences for design and branding. Candidates based in Thailand or the South and SE Asia region are desirable.
