Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) Thailand country program was established in 1975 to assist refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and currently assists refugees and migrants from Burma. IRC Thailand operates as one of the largest and programmatically diverse humanitarian organizations providing essential services to displaced populations in Thailand. Assistance programs encompass health, education, institutional capacity building, gender-based violence prevention, water and sanitation, income generation, advocacy, protection, legal assistance, and resettlement program.
Job Overview/Summary:
The Project Officer Manager oversees and coordinates the work of the Project Officers ensuring that they perform their duties in an effective way. The Project Officer Manager provides support to Legal Advisors, Project Officers and Camp-Based Assistants in the provision of translation and project support services for the LAC project. In addition, the Project Officer Manager performs a key liaison role in establishing linkages and good community relations between the LAC project, community beneficiaries, Thai authorities and other related organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
Job-Specific
- Oversee the work of the Project Officers working in Mae La and Umpiem camps ensuring that they perform their duties efficiently.
- Coordinate the movements of the Project Officers working in Mae La and Umpiem camps as per the translation needs/tasks expressed/requested by LAC team.
- Provide technical support to the Project Officers working in Mae La, Umpiem and Nupo camps in the provision of translation and project support services for the LAC project.
- Provide accurate translation and interpreting during counseling and/or training sessions for refugees and other partner organizations.
- Provide accurate translation of related documents which will be used for training or distributing to communities, CBOs and etc.
- Translate correspondence between LAC staff, and refugee committee in the camp, CBOs and related government agencies.
- Assist LAC staff to keep track of training or counselling provided for refugee committee in the camp and other partner organizations.
- Assist LAC staff to establish linkages and maintain close cooperation with community leaders, local government authorities, CBOs and NGOs on issues relating to legal and human rights issues.
- Perform other assignments as needed.
General
- Participate in professional training activities, as needed or requested.
- Represent IRC positively and professionally in both internal and external relations and situations.

Education: High School Certificate
Work Experience and/or Demonstrated Abilities: Two to three years of work experience in translation/interpreting.
Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in supervising staff
- Ability to handle multi-task and sensitive issues
- Ability to deal with traumatized people in an effective and compassionate way
- Effective personnel management skills
- Computer literate
Languages:
- Demonstrate good written and spoken Karen, Burmese, Thai and English languages.
- Previous experience in translation and interpretation Karen, Burmese, Thai and English languages.
