The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC regional delegation in Bangkok provides assistance to victims of violence and works with authorities in order to improve the conditions in detention facilities. It also endeavours to promote and to strengthen humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.
We are looking for a
Environment Scanning & Communication Officer, based in Bangkok
The Environment Scanning Communication Officer/Analyst will be in charge of monitoring, gathering and processing relevant information from the media, including social media and relevant sources on issues related to humanitarian situation, regional affairs/ASEAN, geopolitics and related developments. He/she will participate in providing a reading of factors/situation that have an impact on the ICRC and its activities in Thailand and the region (Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam) and in writing analysis and summaries on certain thematic/issues of relevance to the ICRC.
Your main responsibilities
Environment scanning
• Monitor online public sources on humanitarian issues and political/social/economic developments relevant to ICRC's work in the region covered by the delegation
• Summarize analysis on different topics to improve the management's decision-making and understanding of the context
• Prepare analytical papers on selected issues related to ICRC’s work and impacting on the region
• Assist the communication team in the preparation of reports, presentations and other material using the results of your researches and analysis
Networking
• Develop and maintain a network of meaningful contacts (influential people) in the social web, identify social media users the ICRC should either follow or engage with.
• Develop contacts with relevant think tanks the delegation would be interested in engaging with.
Website management
• Contribute to the brainstorming process ofdeveloping of online content and products promoting ICRC activities for various public.
• Advise on relevant issues trending (online communication/social media) in the region.
Reporting
• Reporting to the headquarters, for the internal bulletin, about activities and relevant meetings of the delegation and offices in the region.
Translation
• Translate and produce summaries into English for in-house use.
Your education and experience
• You have a University's degree (or equivalent) in international relations, politics, social sciences, communication, journalism or similar field.
• You possess a strong track record in secondary research (selecting information's sources, data gathering, and filtering, etc.) and analysis (production of analytical and narrative reports).
• You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Thai
• You have excellent capacity to synthesize as well as strong organizational skills
• You have the ability to take initiative, self-motivate and work independently.
• You have demonstrated ability to coordinate work with others, work effectively and flexibly in a team and show commitment to the collective output of a project team.
