Save the Children International is looking for a temporary Monitoring and Evaluation support person for the Literacy Boost in Emergencies (LBiE) Project

Save the Children started working in Thailand since 1984. We work with local NGOs and government partners to support the development of capacity among government and civil society to deliver positive outcomes for children.
Literacy Boost in Emergency Project (LBiE)
LBiE project is a one year learning project, from January-December 2015, and it aims to support schools and communities such as, parents, caretakers, community leaders, to aware and help supporting children to read both in and outside schools. The project has been implemented in two camps-Umpiem and Nupo. Save the Children is working in partnership with Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) and World Education (WE) for developing children’s better reading skills.
Report to: MEAL Coordinator
Scope of work:
- To lead the Focus Group Discussion in Umpiem and Nupo camps using appropriate questions developed together with the project staff and the from Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team.
- To support the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Assessment in November to ensure the quality of data collection. This will involve training enumerators and facilitating data collection in camps with project team.
- To collate data for the SEL Technical Advisor analysis.
- Other assigned task as necessary
Key qualification & Competencies:
- Good understand and knowledge of the camp context and its dynamics.
- Have at least 1-2 year background in data collection or research work
- Ability to gather information in an objective, appropriate and sensitive way by carefully observing, by actively listening, by paying full attention to the situation and the information of various sources, and understand the points being made.
- Ability to pose appropriate questions including gender sensitivity, children or vulnerable community focused.
- Effective communication in English and Karen.
- Acting with appropriate respect for local culture, understanding and interpreting reactions in a culturally and gender sensitive way.
- Good at enter, transcribe, record, maintain data/information in written or electronic forms.
- Basic understanding and use of technological devices such as mobile phones, tablets, computers.
- Good communication skill in English and Karen preferred
- Able to work overtime and familiar with working under pressure and deadline
- Good data analysis and report writing skill
Consultancy period and cost
The Temporary M & E support person contract period will be for 6 weeks during October and November (*Subject to change due to the assessment and SEL activities schedules)
The Temporary M & E support person will need to submit the quotation for the cost for the whole assignment of 6 weeks.
Location
The consultant is expected to work at Save the Children branch office located in Mae Sot, Tak province.
