Position Title: Storyteller and Content Advisor – Mekong Partnership for the Environment

Location: Bangkok, Thailand
Position Summary: The Storyteller and Content Advisor will design and develop materials to tell the story of the Mekong Partnership for the Environment (MPE) project. The ideal candidate will support the Media and Communications Director and broader MPE team on creating the project’s communications and outreach materials, content for social media presence, and other relevant methods to convey the work of MPE. S/he should be a team player, with combination of a marketing and publishing mindset. The successful candidate will be able to take the complex and make it meaningful, understandable, and personal. MPE’s goal is to advance informed dialogues between government, civil society organizations, and private sector stakeholders in Lower Mekong partner countries on the anticipated social and environmental costs and benefits of large-scale regional development projects. Limited regional travel to Lower Mekong countries may occur with this position. This is a short term position of approximately 3-4 months of time over a one year period. The successful candidate is ideally located in Bangkok, however candidates based in other Southeast Asian countries are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
Develop knowledge of MPE’s work via participation in program meetings, field visits, workshops and active information seeking.
Engage MPE team consistently around the experience of implementing the project
Compose and edit compelling stories for both print and electronic distribution for a diverse target audience
Create content appropriate for at least three different categories: social media, donor reporting, and project outreach
Develop an editorial calendar for story production and use in collaboration with the Media and Communications team.
Education and Abilities:
Demonstrated understanding of story fundamentals (effective character, trajectory, hook, authenticity/details and calls to action)
Have a keen sense of what makes a story interesting from the audience’s perspective
Possess stellar writing skills in English
Have experience in conducting effective interviews with story subjects
Demonstrated storyboarding experience that highlights an understanding of the effectiveness and appropriateness of story assets
Ability to translate technical ideas and concepts into comprehensible language for non-specialists
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as creative writing, public relations, marketing or related communications field.
A minimum of seven years of experience in multi-channel content creation (publishing, advertising, etc.)
Organised and detail oriented and with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and a variety of tasks
High level of proficiency in verbal and written English required. Language skills in Vietnamese, Burmese, Thai, and/or Khmer preferred.
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, web applications, and social media outlets required.
Graphic design and video skills preferred
