KK International School (KKIS) is an emerging educational institution situated on the Thai-Myanmar border, currently in the process of constructing a new school complex in a new location. KKIS offers a unique professional development opportunity to transition students from Thai standards to the British Curriculum and shape the future of education in a remote, diverse, geographical, and cross-cultural setting.

Job Summary:

The Primary-Level Chinese Teacher role is designed to support students in acquiring proficiency in Mandarin Chinese as an additional language and provide linguistic support within an international school setting. The teacher will deliver engaging Chinese language lessons, foster cultural understanding, and integrate language-learning strategies to support students at different proficiency levels.

Responsibilities:

1. Chinese Language Teaching:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Mandarin Chinese lessons to students across primary levels, focusing on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

  • Develop lesson plans aligned with language acquisition standards and communicative language teaching approaches.

  • Incorporate interactive and immersive teaching methods to enhance language learning.

  • Encourage students to use Mandarin in real-life contexts and facilitate cultural appreciation.

2. Language Support & Integration:

  • Assist students in developing academic language skills to access the British curriculum effectively.

  • Work collaboratively with homeroom and subject teachers to differentiate instruction and provide additional language support.

  • Support students’ transition from beginner-level Mandarin to more advanced proficiency levels.

3. Assessment & Progress Monitoring:

  • Conduct language assessments to evaluate students' Chinese language proficiency.

  • Maintain detailed records and provide progress reports to parents and school leadership.

  • Upload lesson plans, student progress data, and assessments to the school's online platforms, including Google Drive and Google Classroom.

4. Supervisory & Extracurricular Duties:

  • Supervise students during breaks and assist in outdoor supervision duties on a rotational basis.

  • Support after-school language and cultural activities to enhance students’ exposure to Mandarin and English.

  • Participate in school-wide events, field trips, and international cultural days.

5. Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Work collaboratively with a diverse, international team of teachers and administrative staff.

  • Actively participate in professional development sessions, staff meetings, and teacher training workshops.

  • Engage with parents and guardians to update them on student progress and provide strategies for continued language learning at home.

6. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Follow KKIS policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection.

  • Assist in the preparation and organization of teaching resources and learning materials.

  • Participate in school trips, community projects, and initiatives that promote cultural and linguistic diversity.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Education, Teaching Mandarin as a Foreign Language, TESOL, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a school setting, preferably in an international or bilingual school environment.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong command of Mandarin Chinese and English (both written and spoken).

  • Experience in teaching Chinese as an additional language or language acquisition support.

  • Familiarity with the British Curriculum and international school teaching practices preferred.

  • Effective classroom management, lesson planning, and assessment strategies.

  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Compliance:

  • Must provide a police background check from the candidate’s home country.

  • Submission of two references from former employers or character referees is mandatory.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience according to KKIS Staff Policy.

  • Housing Allowance: Dependent on KKIS Staff Policy.

  • Visa & Work Permit: Non-B Visa and Work Permit provided.

  • Social Security Fund: Coverage as per Thai labor laws.

  • Annual Leave & Public Holidays: As per Thai government regulations.

  • Professional Development: Ongoing training and support in language teaching methodologies.

  • Contract: Full contract with a probationary period of 3 months.
