This position will be 50% focused on the Stopping Exploitation Through Accessible Services (SEAS) Project and 50% focused on digital and social media and internal communications. This position will fulfill an anticipated surge in requests for outputs of the Stopping Exploitation Through Accessible Services (SEAS) Project as well as resource ARO’s increasing demand for quality digital resources, expanding social media presence, and maintaining internal communications channels.
Purpose: The SEAS/Internal and Digital Communications Officer works in collaboration with the other members of the regional communication team, the SEAS project, and with country communication colleagues and counterparts at Plan International headquarters and National Offices. As Plan International’s SEAS project prepares for a public launch and an increased demand for external communications outputs, the Asia Regional Office requires a Thai-language speaking communications professional who is able to travel to fishing communities and conduct interviews with beneficiaries, write stories, capture photography and video, and ensure that these materials are shared with Plan International’s National Offices and international headquarters. In addition, this role seeks to capitalize and expand on ARO’s recent success in expanding social media presence and engagement, and maintain that production of quality digital resources and internal communications with the Plan International federation. The role requires the ability to work with limited supervision, willingness to travel, experience with graphic design and photography, and fluent written and spoken English and Thai.
Typical Responsibilities - Key End Results of Position: “What” is done and “why”, but not “how”; include indicators for success Production and management of a package of communications materials to accompany the public launch of the SEAS project, including stories and case studies from fishing and migrant communities, photography, video, and digital resources including memes and infographics. Managing consultants such as photographers and videographers who may be contracted for SEAS-related work, including preparing terms of reference and ensuring adherence to child protection and consent procedures. Managing and maintaining the storage and promotion of these and other resources on Plan International’s Media Bank database. Travel to fishing and migrant communities to conduct interviews with beneficiaries, and turning these interviews into engaging stories for use by different Plan International offices and the media. Leading journalists and international delegations to fishing communities and ensuring adherence to child protection and consent procedures. Supporting media relations work, specifically with regards to Thai-language media. maintaining all social media accounts for Plan International Asia (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Exposure) and ensuring that appropriate, branded, and engaging content (text, images, videos, infographics etc) is being sourced, prepared and shared on a regular basis. Updating and monitoring acceptable use policies for social media, photography, and video resources, particularly as they pertain to social media and child protection. Working with Plan staff and external suppliers to develop engaging content for multimedia digital platforms, including text, images, video and graphics. Working with Plan International Country Offices and National offices to producing engaging stories, including case studies, video, and photographic content, that raise the voices of children and communities in the region across media and focus on positive stories in a development and humanitarian context. Keeping all Plan International staff in the region and globally updated regarding Plan’s work and achievements in Asia. Graphic design and layout, including of digital resources such as memes and infographics as well as brochures, reports, and other resources as required. Producing and distributing the weekly “What’s Happening at ARO” electronic newsletter. Working with IH colleagues to maintain content and increase use of MediaBank and Planet. Communications support to emergency responses in the region, including potential deployment. Assist internal communications, awareness, and buy in of the goals and objects of Because I am A Girl Phase II by Plan International staff throughout the Asia region.
Communications and Working Relationships: Working contacts inside and outside the organization; include the purpose and level (high, medium, low) of the contact. High level contact: Country Communications Staff, SEAS Project, and the Regional program & communication team. High level: IH‟s internal communication staff to ensure alignment of regional internal communication efforts with those of the global organization.
What are the primary linkages for this post? Works closely with IH and CO Communications teams. Works closely with Plan International Thailand and Plan International Cambodia staff who are working on the SEAS project.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives: Degree in Communication/Journalism or Public Relations, or relevant experience. Familiarity with graphic design and photo editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite. Familiarity and experience managing corporate social media platforms. Experience (with samples) of graphic design, layout, and photo editing. Experience working with community members, including in marginalized and minority communities. Excellent writing skills. Fluent written and spoke Thai Fluent written and spoke English
Physical Environment and Demands: May be “typical office environment”, Typical office environment, occasional travel, mainly within Thailand. Occasionally including weekends
