Description
World Education has worked on the Thai-Burma border for 15 years, improving access to and quality of education for displaced persons from Burma living on both sides of the border. During that time, World Education has supported curriculum development, special education, youth leadership programs, teacher training, vocational education, and organizational capacity building with local partner organizations.
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operational management, coordination, and support of the Communications Team as well as the oversight of the design and implementation of activities in relation to media and communication strategies and products, data management, and documentation. The Coordinator supports World Education projects the Project for Local Empowerment (PLE) partners with technical knowledge in media strategy, promotion and branding, and monitoring of partner/project support activities. The Coordinator also oversees the design and development of systems and tools for the measurement of impact of World Education interventions. They coordinate and edit monthly updates and coordinate and produce quarterly reports. This is a great opportunity to work with and manage an enthusiastic, flexible and very capable team who have skills in film, media, photography and data base management and to help support our own, as well as a range of local organizations in improving their communications, social media and data management systems. The coordinator needs to have very strong written and spoken English skills.
Technical Responsibilities
Lead a team and conduct the day-to-day operational management and implementation of the WE Thailand Communications Strategy in the areas of media/IT and organizational promotion, ensuring objectives are reached
Oversee the Communications Team in the implementation of activities, provide support and lead the performance appraisal of individual team members including agreeing and overseeing a monthly plan for a new Facebook page and other communications updates
In collaboration with the Deputy Director and designated Focal Points, design and co-ordinate the delivery of Organizational Development interventions with local partners
Develop systems/tools for follow up and evaluation of interventions in order for organizational learning of best practices and lessons learned
Support and coordinate the WE internal data management and/or IT interventions as required.
Oversee maintenance and correct usage of the WE documentation system, ensuring that all documentation is available to staff and external evaluators when/if required.
Produce and develop quarterly reports for USAID reflecting the work of World Education Thailand in line with management strategies, prepare shortly monthly updates and stories for donors and prepare and coordinate requests for additional information requests
Proof read English language communications materials, including written materials, video and media materials and Facebook posts to ensure accuracy and that donor branding standards are met
Other Responsibilities
Develop team budgets and work-plans, in line with requirements
Liaise and communicate with donors in support of partner/WE project funding, as required and assist in the production of proposals or communications materials, as required
Attend and participate in management and sectors meetings and discussions, provide input during wider WE planning and evaluation of program activities and share information with the team
Act as a representative of World Education at external coordination meetings as required, representing WE in a professional manner in the field at all times
Skills & Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor‘s degree, or equivalent level of qualification is required, preferably in a related field
3+ years of experience in coordination of complex projects.
2+ years’ experience in the production, editing and proof-reading of English language documents, including donor reports, as well as an ability to write clearly, simply and concisely
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and/or write and adapt a range of materials so they are suitable for the differing needs of internal and external stakeholders, including community based partner organizations, international donors, and a multinational team
Demonstrated knowledge of educational development areas (and experience with programs for organizational development is highly desirable)
Strong interpersonal skills; and a demonstrated ability to lead and develop local and international staff to plan strategically and creatively to develop quality outputs and results
Strong organizational and planning skills and a strong commitment to ensure deadlines are met
Ability to work flexibly and empathetically in a dynamic and rapidly changing social and political environment
Strong (native or near native) fluency in English, written and spoken required. Language skills in a relevant local language desirable (Burmese/Myanmar, Mon, Karen)
