Introduction
The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station attached to the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. It is part of the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit (MORU) which is a collaborative effort between Mahidol and Oxford Universities, and is part-funded by a UK charity, the Wellcome Trust. SMRU’s aims are to

i) treat and care for patients with malaria,

ii) undertake research into malaria in this area in order to determine the best methods of prevention and treatment, and

iii) to advise on the treatment and the control of malaria in the South East Asia region and more widely. SMRU is based in Mae Sot where the main laboratories are based and receive samples from sites along the Thai-Myanmar border.

Since 2009, SMRU is engaged also in Tuberculosis program with activities on active and passive case findings, diagnosis and treatment of TB patients with updated protocol and best quality of care in full cooperation with national programs and other stakeholders.

Since 2016, SMRU TB program is developing collaboration with Myanmar NTP and NAP, and with district Myawaddy hospital and other stakeholders located in Myawaddy as IOM, and others.

Job title: Medical Liaison Officer  

Location: TB Office/Myawaddy

Report to: TB program director

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Liaison and coordination with Myanmar local and regional health authorities

• Carry over all official reports and letters to official health authority in Kayin and Mon state
• Participate to local meeting to facilitate collaboration of SMRU program with NTP and NAP and develop coordination of activities

Registration and Referral process

• Assist TB / HIV SMRU physicians in collaboration with Myawaddy hospital physicians
• Organize and follow all registration and referral procedures for SMRU TB/HIV patients in Myawaddy hospital
• Follow TB-HIV patients diagnosed at SMRU and referred to Myawaddy hospital and IOM and other stakeholders eventually
• Follow registration and referral process with recording patients in specific logbook for proper and consistent reporting

Management of Drugs supply from Myanmar

• Collect and manage the drugs provided by NTP and NAP following SMRU quarterly order

Office management

• Supervise logistic assistant
• Coordinate activities with KoKo and Wang Pha TB clinics
• Liaise with Mae Sot SMRU office regarding paper work and other official requirement issue
• Provide the SMRU TB program director and the Head of Administrator with information on expenditure and other logistic need that require by site staff
• Contribute to production of reports

Essential Criteria

• Fluency in  Burmese, English and Karen
• Experience in medical field,
• Ability to communicate to different category and level of partners
• Commitment and honest
• Good relationship
• Experience in management of project
