Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.
The USAID-funded Project for Local Empowerment (PLE) works to build the technical, management, and leadership capacities of community-based organization (CBO) partners to deliver efficient and effective health, education, legal, livelihood and protection services, and distribute food and cash transfers, for migrants and refugees living in and out of camps in Thailand Border provinces as well as for conflict affected populations living in south eastern Myanmar. PLE also directly addresses the legal and policy environment in Thailand that creates roadblocks for displaced Burmese seeking to access their rights, through advocacy and other interventions.
Job Overview/Summary: This position will be based in Mae Sot, TAK province and travel frequently to Southeast Myanmar, refugee camps in Thailand and partner Universities in Thailand and Myanmar. The position also needs to train, supervise and mentor ethnic health workers and front line health workers from Myanmar for their academic learning process and supervise and co-supervise their application projects and thesis. Compiling data from PLE field health activities and prepare reports and submit to journals and IRC publication in both electronic and hard copies.
