Intern – Policy & Advocacy Unit
Overall Purpose of Job: Amnesty International Thailand (AI-TH) is seeking an intern to provide research and administrative work and support to the Policy and Advocacy unit. The position reports directly to the Policy and Advocacy Coordinator. The Policy and Advocacy unit designs and implements AI-TH’s policy and advocacy activities, support the organization’s overall campaign strategies, support other units on human rights and political analysis, and works with governmental and non-governmental partners to attain the organization’s goals on policy and accountability changes.
Responsibilities
• Providing logistic and administrative support such as taking minutes at meetings, drafting administrative letters, preparing events and internal meetings, scheduling, and making travel arrangements.
• Editing, translating, interpreting, and formatting materials such as reports, briefing papers, multimedia, and web content. • Providing analysis support such as gathering information and documents, and writing paper briefings particularly on the issues of protection of human rights defenders; freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association, torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment; and refugee rights.
• Monitoring and following up daily news regarding Thailand human rights and political situation, legislative and parliamentary processes, and other issues of concern as requested;
• Attending seminars, conferences, and court hearings as requested;
• Assisting the campaign team as requested, for example, taking public actions, joining public demonstrations, or joining community visits or field human rights education sessions;
• Carrying out other duties as requested. Qualifications
• An undergraduate student in the 3rd or 4th year of study or a bachelor degree in Law, Human Rights, Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, Public Policy and/or Administration, Arts or other related degree in the field of social science is required.
• Native or bilingual proficiency in Thai is required. Full professional proficiency in English is highly desirable.
• Excellent writing skills in Thai and/or English are required.
• Proven research experience and skills, and administrative experience are required.
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills are required.
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and ability to work well as a team member are required.
• Ability to work well on multiple tasks under pressure is required.
• Commitment to Amnesty International’s mission and principles is required.
• Strong interest in human rights, social justice, and public policy is highly desirable.
• Availability to travel out of Bangkok and working outside office hours are required.
Contracts: 3 months or longer.
Salary: Unpaid.
