Position title: Conservation and Marketing Communications Manager (Thai Nationality only)
Directly reports to: Country Director, WWF-Thailand, WWF Thailand
Technically reports to: Communication and Marketing Director, WWF GMPO
Supervises: Marketing Communication Officer, Conservation Communication Officer/ Online-communication Officer, Occasional Consultancies, Volunteers
Validity: One year, with option to renew for subsequent years
Location: Bangkok, WWF Thailand
Major Function
The Conservation and Marketing Communications Manager has key responsibilities in building WWF’s brand and supporting WWF’s conservation programme with appropriate positioning in conservation, corporate marketing, fund raising (face to face and digital) merchandising and major donor relations. She or he ensures the Communications Department helps deliver strategic conservation, marketing and fund raising/major donor outcomes.
The Manager ensures the Communications Department is responsible for development and implantation of WWF Thailand’s strategic conservation communications strategy within the context of national priorities and the framework of the WWF Greater Mekong’s Conservation Strategic Plan. He or she engages media to ensure government, stakeholders, corporate entities and individuals support conservation objectives.
The Manager ensures the Communications Department builds WWF’s brand with appropriate positioning among government, corporate, donors and public audiences to help deliver WWF’s strategic outcomes and support conservation, marketing and fund raising. He or she manages a team and coordinates joint communications and marketing strategies to maintain strong, committed partnerships. In addition, the Manager leads on WWF branding initiatives with relevant sectors through multiple communication channels to ensure long term donations with effective donor retention.
The Conservation and Marketing Manager is a member of WWF Thailand’s Country Management Team (CMT). This team also includes the Unit Heads overseeing administrative functions within WWF Thailand. The Conservation and Marketing Manager reports directly to the Country Director
The Manager strictly follows WWF Monitoring and Evaluation System through monitoring of communication strategy, provide update, produce good quality report and on timely manner.
Major Responsibilities
1. Communication
- Supervises the Communications Department for Conservation, Marketing and Fund Raising. Leads the planning, coordination and implementation of all communications strategies and work plans for WWF Thailand
- In conjunction with the Country Management Team and the WWF Greater Mekong Program (GMP), oversees and contributes to the strategic develop and implementation of campaigns related to WWF Thailand and regional GMP objectives
- Develops ambitious media and campaign activities, including organizing events such as press trips, press conferences/seminars, school/university contests/events, while continuously monitoring media conversations.
- Develops and continually updates a calendar of communications, marketing and fund raising activities for the WWF Thailand Program
- Establishes an internal management system to integrate WWF Thailand’s external communications and outreach efforts, bringing them to the attention of international and local media.
- Develops a network of contacts and maintains good working relationship with important government partners in Thailand, including relevant Ministries and their line agencies of importance to WWF conservation programs, in addition to strategic alliances with other NGOs and community groups to promote WWF’s conservation program objective.
- Oversees the writing, design, production and dissemination of fact sheets, reports, brochures, advertisements and other materials...
- Oversees development and upkeep of WWF Thailand’s website and social media channels by providing fresh content on a regular basis and developing strategies to increase reach, influence and support for WWF.
- Develop and conduct appropriate communication tools (e.g. Annual Report, articles, press releases, the WWF-TOP bulletin)
2. Coordination
- Coordinates with WWF Thailand Program Manager to ensure appropriate messaging of conservation activities and priorities
- Coordinates with WWF Thailand Marketing Unit Head and Fund Raising Unit Head to ensure appropriate support and appropriate messaging of Marketing and Fund Raising activities and priorities
- Coordinates with Regional Communications Director and colleagues in WWF Thailand and WWF Greater Mekong to meet programmatic objectives.
3. Program Representation, Networking and Partnership Building
- Represents WWF Thailand and the WWF Greater Mekong Program in national, and international meetings, as approved by the WWF Thailand Country Director and the Greater Mekong Regional Representative.
- Develops a network of media contacts for the dissemination of WWF messaging
- Maintains good working relations with all staff in WWF Thailand and WWF Greater Mekong
- Maintains good working relations with important government partners in Thailand, including relevant Ministries and the line agencies
- Actively seeks to build strategic alliances with other NGOs and other organizations to promote WWF’s conservations objectives
4. Reporting
- Coordinates with WWF Thailand and international to provide hard and electronic copies of all reports for library, internet and database archives
- Works with Communication staff across the WWF Network to provide inputs into communications and press releases activities
5. Monitoring and Evaluation
- Monitors all communications projects, within the framework of the WWF Greater Mekong and WWF international systems
- Tracks media uptake on WWF and environmentally related media
- Evaluates communications strategies for relevance and effectiveness
- Incorporates all communications progress in the WWF M&E system regularly as required
This TOR covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the sort of tasks that are anticipated proactively from staff. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary according to organizational needs.
Working Relationships
The Communications Manager works under the supervision of the Thailand Country Director, and works closely with the Conservation Program Manager, Marketing and Fund Raising Department Heads. She or he also fosters a close working relationship with other staff members of WWF Thailand and the wider WWF Greater Mekong Program Office team
She or he maintains weekly contact with WWF Thailand Country Director on office communications needs. The Manager also has bi weekly contact with the WWF Thailand Program Manager and the Marketing and Fund Raising Managers on linkages between programmatic work and communications outreach.
Bi-weekly contact with the Greater Mekong Communications Director on all communications projects to improve coordination across the region and the WWF Network.
Regular contact with WWF International and Greater Mekong staffs on messaging content and overall activity alignment.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
The Communication Manager exhibits strong self-motivation, organizational skills, and communications abilities. She or he is able to translate environment and conservation priorities into exciting and interesting stories for public consumption.
Knowledge
The Communications Manager has in-depth knowledge of the national and international media in Thailand. She or he is familiar with conservation and national resource management issues.
Experience
The Communications Manager has a college degree in communications or a similar field, advance degree preferred. Alternately, she or he has 7+ years applied experience in Thailand or the wider Greater Mekong Subregion on media related environment issues. She or he has an extensive working knowledge of the local surroundings and has previously maintained networks of professional contacts
Skills and Abilities
The Communications Manager possesses the ability to rapidly and accurately generate public relations materials in English and Thai. Excellent writing skills are a must in both languages. She or he is also capable of representing WWF verbally in Thai and English. She or he is able to adopt WWF key competencies listed in the WWF performance document.
Key Performance Indicators
Required outputs are to be evaluated annually with the Thailand Country Director via a performance appraisal. Outputs for the positions are as follows:
