Opening: Volunteer Community Advocate

 

Asylum Access is an innovative non-profit founded to make refugee rights a reality in Africa, Asia and Latin America.  We help refugees assert their fundamental rights using four integrated tools; individualized legal counsel and/or representation, community legal empowerment, policy advocacy and strategic litigation.  With offices in Ecuador, Mexico, Thailand, Tanzania and Malaysia, we provide direct legal assistance reaching over 10,000 refugees per year. 

 

Asylum Access Thailand (AAT) is looking for a Volunteer Community Advocate to assist the Community Outreach team at Asylum Access in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating community empowerment activities approved by the Community Outreach Coordinator.

 

Duration: contract  (3 April 2017 – 30 June 2017)

 

         Key responsibilities  

  • Support the Community Outreach team in administration duties including booking of venues, preparation of toolkits, workshop materials and transportation expenses for program activities.
  • Assist the team in the development of relevant processes related to outreach program activities including AAT’s Interpreter Information sheet.
  • Perform monitoring and evaluation (M&E) duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders for the production of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) media.

 

         Qualifications:

 

  • University degree in Community Development, Social Administration or related fields.
  • Demonstrated interest in supporting and understanding of refugee communities in urban areas.
  • Must be able to work under stress and with changing priorities.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.

 

         Package:

 

  • Volunteer stipend THB 12,000 per month
  • Work experience in supporting urban refugees in a variety of community contexts.
  • Free English classes for non-native English speakers.
  • Written reference plus certificate of completion.
  • Experience in group facilitation and training clients.
  • Experience in developing work plans and M&E
  • Improved fluency in English through working in an English speaking environment.
  • Cross-cultural communication skills, and experience working with interpreters.
  • Asylum Access Alumni opportunities to obtain paid work in the field of refugee law or human rights.
  • AAT will reimburse all transportation and communication expenses that related to work.

        

         Note: The position is based in Bangkok.
