Background/IRC Summary:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.
Job Overview/Summary:
IRC provides primary health care and environmental health services in several refugee camps in Thailand. IRC provides preventive and curative health care services in the camps, including primary health care, reproductive health, neonatal care and health education. Clinical services include out-patient department (OPD) and in-patient department (IPD) care; laboratories supporting IPD/OPD and reproductive health clinics; pharmacy services for essential drugs; community health education, and mental health care. Environmental health services aim to create a healthy living environment for refugees living in the camps through the provision of quality water and sanitation facilities, leading efforts to improve access to chlorinated water, sanitation, and hygiene in the camps.
Under the direct supervision of the Health Coordinator, the Senior Community Health Officer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the IRC community health activities in Tak camps through promotion, prevention, and educational campaigns and interventions. This involves community mobilization in recognizing and addressing health issues and prevention and early detection of communicable diseases. The Senior Community Health Officer provides on-going technical support mentoring to the community health teams and conduct regular health training of various topics, including developing work plan, monitoring of community health activities, organizing awareness raising campaigns and communicable diseases outbreak prevention and response activities, organizing and coordinating hygiene promotion, promotion of healthy behavior, and public health awareness activities involving other sectors.

Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor degree in public health or related field
Work Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in public health services, preferably in a refugee setting. Practical experience in clinical or preventive health care is a plus.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
Language Skills: Fluency in Thai and English. Karen is a plus.
Working Environment: The position will be based in the IRC office in Mae Sot, with frequent travel to the temporary shelters for displaced person.
