Overall Purpose of Job:
Amnesty International Thailand (AITH) is seeking an intern to provide research and administrative support to the Policy and Advocacy unit. The position reports directly to the Policy and Advocacy Coordinator. The Policy and Advocacy unit designs and implements AITH’s policy and advocacy activities; supports other campaign units on human rights, strategic and political analysis; and engages with governmental and non-governmental partners and stakeholders to achieve the organization’s goals on policy and accountability changes.
Responsibilities
• Provide research support such as gathering relevant information and documents, and write briefings particularly on the issues of protection of human rights defenders; protection of refugees and asylum-seekers; protection of freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association; and torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.
• Provide logistic and administrative support such as taking minutes at meetings; drafting letters and other administrative documents; preparing public events and internal meetings; and scheduling travel and other arrangements.
• Edit, translate, and format writing materials such as reports, briefing papers, and multimedia and web content.
• Monitor daily news and information regarding Thailand human rights and political situation; legislative, executive and judiciary processes; and other issues of concern as requested.
• Attend seminars, conferences, and court hearings as requested.
• Assist the campaign team as requested, for example, taking public actions; joining public demonstrations; or joining community visits or external human rights education sessions.
• Carry out other duties as requested. Qualifications
• An undergraduate student in the 3rd or 4th year of study or a bachelor degree in Law, Human Rights, Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, Public Policy and/or Administration, Arts or other related degree is required.
• Native or bilingual proficiency in Thai is required. Full professional proficiency in English is highly desirable.
• Excellent writing skill in Thai and/or English is required.
• Proven research experience and skills, and administrative experience are required.
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills are required.
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision with high discipline and ability to work well as a team member are required.
• Ability to work well on multiple tasks under pressure is required.
• Commitment to Amnesty International’s mission and principles is required.
• Strong interest in human rights, social justice, and public policy is highly desirable.
• Availability to travel out of Bangkok and working outside office hours are required.
Contracts: At least 3 months.
Allowance: Limited allowance will be provided.
