SOCIAL ADVISOR
CDE Thailand
The Education Program of La Chaine de l’Espoir (CDE) in Thailand initially targeted children from the slums of Bangkok. CDE has progressively refocused its activity in Buriram Province in order to prevent migration from rural to urban areas by providing support in access to education. Buriram province is one of the poorest region of Thailand and many indebted families are not able to provide for their basic needs having a negative impact on the education of their children. This program relies on a solid network of teachers to foster the education of disadvantaged children and is implemented in partnership with House of Hope Thai Foundation to protect the most vulnerable children and give them opportunities for a better future.
Main objectives of the program:
Under the Education Program conducted by la Chaine de l’Espoir in Thailand, the social advisor is in charge of developing and ensuring the provision of social support and case management services within House of Hope and to develop social support mechanisms at school and community level.
He / she is also responsible for the reinforcement of capacities of teachers, CDE and House of Hope team members in providing social support.
The social advisor will work closely with local implementing partners and participate actively in child protection-related activities and meetings to ensure that the program goals are achieved.
- Contribute to develop and conduct an overall needs assessment in relation to children’s vulnerability in accessing education
- Based on the identified needs, propose a redefinition of the social support system and support its implementation
- Develop criteria to target most vulnerable children to benefit from social support systems
- Develop and maintain a monitoring and evaluation plan on social work activities (including database)
- Provide technical support and guidance to school directors, teachers, CDE and HOH teams in organizing home visits and assessing social support needs
- Propose strategies for local partners and stakeholders to develop their role in community-based child protection mechanisms
- Produce technical tools (guidelines, assessment forms, social counselling tools, monitoring sheets) and train/coach/mentor stakeholders accordingly
- Conducting outreach and awareness activities to identify and facilitate assistance to vulnerable children and their families at community level
- Conducting home visits and interviews with children and their families to assess and review their protection concerns
- Providing social counseling to the children and their families and implementing social support plan through social work activities
- Ensuring case management referral procedures, carrying out follow-ups and providing prompt feed backs on referred cases to responsible agencies
- Organizing child protection activities ensuring activities are implemented in a timely manner meeting program goals.
Additional training / experience in psychosocial support is a plus
Language skills: Fluent Thai (spoken and written) and English proficient speaking and writing skills. Khmer is an asset.
Salary: To be defined based on experience, qualifications and CDE salary scale
Duration: one year contract (renewable) with a three-month trial period
