Position: Education Project Assistant
Start date: 29 May 2017
Duty station: Mae Sot, Thailand
Supervisor: STEP and REACT Project Coordinators
Role purpose
Under the overall supervision of the STEP and REACT Project Coordinators the successful candidate will assist in the overall implementation of two migrant education projects under HWF: the EU-IOM funded project “Step Into Education” (STEP) and Save the Children (SCI) funded “Reaching Education for All Children in Thailand” (REACT).
STEP
The Step Into Education project has been created to promote, educate and allow for an integrated environment for Rohingya and Myanmar Muslims in and around Mae Sot through access to education; ensuring a brighter future for Rohingya and Myanmar Muslims and in turn, raising awareness of the legal and protection implications and benefits for this marginalised group.
The Step In Education project has two key focuses; firstly to achieve the engagement of the marginalized Muslim community through awareness raising campaigns on education and to promote its importance and benefits (ID, Legal status etc); and secondly with the Rohingya and Myanmar Muslim children to ensure the enrolment into Thai public schools or migrant learning centers (MLCs) in and around Mae Sot.
The project activities enable increased integration of Myanmar Muslim children into the Thai host community leading to a better understanding among the different ethnic and religious groups, decreasing potential ethnic tensions and concerns and increasing the Thai language skills of the migrant children, thus offering better future opportunities for these children in the long term.
REACT
The goal of the Reaching Education for All Children in Thailand project is to ensure that Migrant Children in Thailand have access to quality education and communities support children’s learning. This goal will be reached in partnership with SCI through the following three objectives:
The project activities support the retention of OOSC migrant students, enables teacher training on inclusive child-centered education strategies, language support and foundational skills, and provides financial sustainability training and infrastructure improvements for Migrant Learning Centers (MLCs). The Education Project Assistant will assist the REACT Project Coordinator and SCI staff with public awareness campaigns and community awareness raising activities in Mae Sot, Mae Ramat and Phop Phra Districts in Tak Province related to the project.
