The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. Made up of 53 Member States and 9 Associate Members, with a geographical scope that stretches from Turkey in the west to the Pacific island nation of Kiribati in the east, and from the Russian Federation in the north to New Zealand in the south, the region is home to 4.1 billion people, or two thirds of the world’s population. This makes ESCAP the most comprehensive of the United Nations five regional commissions, and the largest United Nations body serving the Asia-Pacific region with over 600 staff.
Brief Project Description:
ESCAP’s Human Resources Management team, in partnership with the management and staff, provides vision and leadership in aligning ESCAP’s human resources with its mandates and strategic direction; develops solutions and seeks results, which address strategic organizational needs as well as those of individual staff and managers; optimizes the potential and well-being of all UN staff; and acts with sensitivity and appropriate flexibility. Its priorities include supporting the alignment of ESCAP’s human resources with the senior management vision and strategy; strengthening the commitment of senior management to human resources; improving HR services to managers and staff through the enhanced HR Help Desk functions and HR information technology; and improving HR guidance and advice to senior managers to support them in managing their own human resources.

Degree level: Bachelor's degree
Type of Degree: First level university degree (Bachelor) in human resources, business or public administration, information management, information technology or other related fields.
Years of work experience: 0-2 years of progressive experience in human resources management, quantitative data analysis, monitoring and evaluation or related area. Experience in the areas of HR metrics or social media outreach is desirable.
Language: Excellent English writing and communication skills. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Driving license: No
Computer skills: Advanced computers skills; excellent skill in data analytics tools is highly desirable.
The candidate will be based in Bangkok.
The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.
Moving travel to duty station (if applicable) and a Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of 32,000THB is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as return travel (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service.
UNV will provide, together with the offer of assignment, a copy of the Conditions of Service, including Code of conduct, to the successful candidate.
