 Malteser International is a German non-governmental organization providing humanitarian assistance and development aid for people in need in over 20 countries. Malteser International is currently working with temporary refugee shelters and surrounding villages in Sob-Moei district, Mae Hong Son province in Thailand. Our office located in Mae Sariang is looking for an efficient, motivated and experienced national candidate for the position as Laboratory Supervisor.

Laboratory Supervisor (1)

Duty Station: Mae Sariang town, Mae Hong Son province

Work locations: Mae Sariang, Mae Ra Ma Luang and Mae La Oon Temporary Refugee Shelters

Main Responsibilities/Duties

1. Supervise, train, and monitor laboratory workers to ensure high of quality laboratory services in camps
2. Ensure laboratory services cover the needs of all facilities in camps
3. Conduct new and refresher training regularly to improve the skill and knowledge of laboratory workers
4. Check laboratory inventory in Mae Sariang regularly and supervise laboratory stocks at camps and ensure accuracy and correct stock balance
5. Verify material requests from laboratory workers in camps
6. Keep all laboratory equipment and materials in camps in good order (hematocrit centrifuge, auto-pipette, refrigerator, microscope, lead battery, inverter and etc.) and work closely with logistic team in need of repair and maintenance
7. Enforce the safety procedures at all laboratories on SOPs and guidelines set up by Thai MOPH
8. Perform internal quality control of malaria microscopy twice a year to ensure sensitivity and specificity of each laboratory techniques maintains a high standard and organize external quality control together with SMRU
9. Communicate with Thai MOPH about issues of Malteser Internatioanl laboratory services (quality control, training, guidelines, and etc) in close coordination with the Medical Coordinator
10. Recheck all positive sputum AFB smears by laboratory workers in camps
11. Assist logistic team in purchase and procurement of laboratory equipment and materials
12. Consolidate the data and information of laboratory services and report regularly to the Medical Coordinator

Essential Qualifications/Skills:

1. Trained laboratory technician with registration in Thailand
2. At least 2-3 year experience in supervisory position in a humanitarian setting (preferably w/ previous experience in Thai-Myanmar refugee shelters)
3. Previous experience and strong ability to plan laboratory equipment and supplies stock with minimum wastage & stock-out.
4. Excellent laboratory technician skills and proven experience of such skills.
5. Strong teaching, training, and supervision skills
6. Fluent in Thai and English, Karen language is considered an advantage
