Job Description: MMM Coordinator (Full time position)

 

  1. Department: MAP Multi Media (MMM) Program, MAP Foundation

The Multi- Media program oversees all forms of media produced or generated by MAP for both migrant workers and other targeted groups (ie government officials, media, general public). The Multi-Media program includes: two community radio stations (FM99MHz, FM 102.5MHz), three websites (www.mapfoundationcm.org with Thai and English versions;www.mapradio.org with Shan and Burmese versions) and two Facebook pages (www.facebook.com/mapfoundation/; www.facebook.com/mapradiocmms/ ).

 

MAP Multimedia Programme produces advocacy materials in migrant languages, such as Burmese and Shan in order to effectively reach and empower the migrant community. Our media strives to respond to the needs and requests of the community as well as provide support to the work of existing programmes focusing on the themes of labour, women and health rights.  MAP produces a wide range of audio, video and print materials to address issues migrants face within their cultural context. MMM is the technical support for the organisation’s media productions.

 

  1. Job Summary:

The Multi-media Coordinator is responsible for developing and ensuring the quality of media produced by MAP, developing the MMM team and ensuring that funds are best spent for the benefit of the migrant community. The MMM coordinator reports directly to the Director. As a senior member of MAP Foundation, the MMM coordinator contributes to the management of the organization by sitting on the Coordinating Committee. This position attends MMM team meetings, MAP staff meetings and other MAP events as required.

 

  1. Duties:

1.       Team management: Lead a small team working both in Chiang Mai and in Maesot.

·         Assess the media team skills, support members to access to skills training and follow up on staff performance

·         Engage in problem solving when staff face difficulties with work assigned or work relationships.

·         Supervise interns and volunteers

2.       Programme management: Ensure the project activities are implemented according to plan and budget, and ensure quality of MMM outputs.

·         Organize monthly meetings with project team to coordinate and oversee the media teams activities (includes review of work-plans, timesheets and leave forms)

·         Oversee the timely production of media as planned in the year plan

·         Monitor and evaluate media projects, including organize feedback and assessment of materials by community

·         Budget and prepare financial reports for the finance team to finalise, authorise advance request and check bill clearance from staff

·         Prepare narrative reports for donors

·         Provide assistance in language and communication problem solving in Shan language

3.       Media Production: Oversee the production of quality media in various form and ensure the materials respond to migrant’s needs and those of MAP.

·         Research and follow regularly developments in media and media related technologies

Written publications:

·         Provide advice and guidance to all projects on the best media format and lay outs and manage MAP’s media projects external to MMM’s as necessary

·         Coordinate with the printing company for quotations and printing of materials

·         For publications produced by projects other than MMM, the MMM coordinator will be requested to edit or proof read the materials in Shan language, in which case, the projects must request assistance in advance

·         Oversee publications production, distribution, record keeping of distribution and publication stock, and archiving of MAP materials in electronic version

Website:

·         Oversee website quality, ease of access, and ensure that information is current and relevant (coordinate with other programmes to provide website content, check materials (content, language, visuals) and authorise for uploading

  • Develop system for MAP Projects to regularly update/ send activity reports for website update
  • Monitor new information and hot news related to MAP’s activities and/or to migrant workers.
  • Maintain and /or develop websites that are accessible to migrants (ie. Shan and Burmese website for the Community Radio project; check MAP’s Shan and Burmese language website links)

Documentary

·         Produce documentaries in collaboration with Media technician and Program teams

·         Coordinate with independent media people in case MAP needs to hire them to produce documentary

·         Advise and/or assist outside documentary production team if requested. 

Social Media

·         Manage the MAP Radio and MAP Foundation Facebook fan pages

·         Link posts with MAP website

4.       Organisation management: Take part in the management of MAP Foundation together with other programme coordinators to ensure transparency and accountability of MAP’s work and procedures.

·         Attend Coordinating Committee meetings to make key decisions on the running of MAP and to check the financial reports.

·         Assist in staff recruitment, selection and evaluation

5.       Programme sustainability: The coordinator is responsible for coming up with strategies and assist the Director in fundraising

·         Fundraise and search for new funders

·         Network regularly with partner organisations

·         Keep informed of current issues and developments in the region relevant to migrant workers and access to information

6.       Advocacy: Represent MAP Foundation in national and international networks to promote correct and positive information dissemination about migrant workers.

·         Develop / maintain connections with relevant civil society networks / media institutions and organizations to further the work of the MMM

·         Coordinate with local and national campaigns on related issues.

 

  1. Skills and Competencies:
  • Significant experience working in similar position
  • Dedicated to support the migrant community in improving their living and working conditions in Thailand
  • Good knowledge of the migrant community from Burma’s situation, culture and languages
  • Good knowledge of the production of printed, audio-visual and internet based Media
  • Can work in multi-cultural setting
  • Is willing to work flexible hours when needed and to travel frequently
  • Language skills: Shan, Burmese, Thai, and English
  • Software: Microsoft office, graphic programmes, knowledge of video editing
  • Written proofing and editing skills

 

  1. Salary range: 15,000-18,000B depending on experience
