Job Summary: 

Reporting to either the Executive Director and/or the Chief Operating Officer, the Fundraising Director’s key responsibility is to ensure a cost effective, ethical and sustainable fundraising base to meet the needs of Greenpeace Southeast Asia.

The Fundraising Director is responsible for delivering a highly ambitious three year fundraising strategy which includes, doubling net and gross income over the next three years, diversifying both acquisition and supporter relationships and delivering over 150,000 active supporters by the end of 2020.

Key elements of the strategy will include:

  • Strengthening and diversifying acquisition streams
  • Reducing attrition and retaining on-going monthly supporters
  • Testing new digital and mobile strategies
  • Building a culture of innovation
  • Mentoring the team to success
  • Developing future leaders of the program from within the team

To achieve all of this the Fundraising Director will lead and develop a team of 45 fundraising staff (with a team of over 200 on-street fundraisers) spread across Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. 

As a director-level member of GPSEA’s management, the Fundraising Director is expected to contribute to the overall strategic management of the organization.

The position requires extensive travel in the region as well as other part of the world. A certain level of public appearance may also be required as part of marketing and brand awareness activities of the office.

Essential to the role is a minimum of ten years’ expertise and knowledge in international fundraising or marketing and sales including three years proven senior management experience. An academic qualification in fundraising, marketing or communications is preferable.

This is a full-time position based in Southeast Asia, with an initial 2year contract.

Key Duties

  • Increase gross fundraising income for Greenpeace Southeast
  • Increase the number of supporters across the region
  • Build a cost effective program (increasing net fundraising income)
  • Diversify income streams and tools used in the department, ensuring that fundraising is based on a broad portfolio to secure long-term income development
  • Ensure the effective integration of fundraising, communications, mass mobilization and campaigns strategies.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Staff Management
  • Lead, motivate and manage Fundraising staff, in line with the organizational aims and objectives in order to ensure the effective performance of the unit and ensure staff development training and performance reviews takes place.
  1. Budget Management
  • Develop, monitor and authorize income and expenditure of the departmental budgets, according to agreed objectives and the priorities of the department, in order to ensure cost effectiveness and strategic expenditure. Closely collaborate with the COO to ensure on-going financial stability of the organization.
  1. Strategic Fundraising Development
  • Oversee the ongoing long term development and implementation of the strategic fundraising to maximize fundraising opportunities in a growth market.
  1. Campaign / Mass Mobilization Support / Integration
  • Work with the Programme and Engagement Directors on the integration of projects and provide fundraising input into plans.

Experience / Skills

  • At least 10 years of professional experience with demonstrated results in developing and executing diverse fundraising or marketing strategies
  • Minimum of three years proven management experience working with teams of various skills, levels and languages and in different geographical locations.
  • Able to lead, inspire and motivate people plus provide a compelling vision
  • Strong financial management and organizational skills with the ability to make, manage and control complex project budgets.
  • Result oriented and ambitious to see the fundraising department succeed
  • Innovative and creative in approach
  • Strong understanding and demonstrable experience of advanced CRM concepts, including segmentation, tailored communications and campaign management.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools and concepts, experience of using these tools to inform a marketing campaign and analyze complex information.
  • Ability to apply a broad range of communication and interpersonal skills that allows the role-holder to interact with and influence a range of contacts and situations, whether internally or externally.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize the work of the entire department. Allocates work, sets and reviews goals, assesses risks and demonstrate knowledge of interdependencies with other areas of work within the organization.
  • A strong decision maker, able to show credible experience of making effective decisions in line with organizational goals and objectives, often based on limited information. Has experience in making decisions that impact on the overall effectiveness of a department or organizations objectives.
  • Draws on a sound understanding of internal and/or external factors, trends and balance of risk to develop options, recommendations and/or solutions requiring a high level of judgment.
  • Able to show experience of effective complex problem solving in a business context
  1. Other duties as directed by the higher Manager/Director.

 

Educational Background & Fundamental Qualifications

 

Level of Education:       University graduate

Field of Study:              Academic qualification in fundraising or marketing or communication or another relevant university degree or extensive professional experience

Work Experience:          At least 10 years of professional experience with demonstrated results in developing and executing diverse fundraising or marketing strategies

                                   Minimum of three years proven management experience working with teams of various skills, levels and languages and in different geographical locations.

                                   Experience in a charity or Non-for-Profit environment highly desirable

Functional Skills          

  • Knowledge and/or experience in budgeting and forecasting
  • Knowledge and/or experience in fundraising reporting and analysis
  • Strong skills in written and spoken English (required) and another regional language (desired)
  • Knowledge and/or experience in training, mentoring, and developing staff
  • Knowledge and/or experience in data management tools and practices

Specific Work Environment  

This position requires the employee to have a flexible approach and the ability to adapt and work in different and challenging work and cultural environments, which may include flexible arrangements working in challenging field and frontline work environments.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE APPLYING TO THIS POST 

WORKING HOURS

Normal hours of work for full time Employee will be forty (40) per week or (5) days in a week, at 8 hours per day excluding an hour lunch break. This will be from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am to 6: 30 pm. Ordinary hours of work may be varied as agreed between staff and the line managers.

LEAVE

A permanent employee will be entitled to the following leaves:

Annual Leave: 20 days

Sick Leave:  30 days

Parental Leave:  10days

Maternity Leave: as per government rules and regulations and Greenpeace policy

Long Service Leave: 2 months paid leave after 5 years of continuous service

Compassionate leave: maximum of 5 days for the death of significant others

In determining salary offer for this position, Greenpeace applies its Salary Grading Process, taking into consideration the job description and applicant’s previous experience, and the organization’s salary grade.
