ABOUT THE TIJ

Building on Thailand’s engagement in the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) was established in 2011 with the aim to promote excellence in research and capacity-building in the area of criminal justice. The institute serves as a bridge that transports global ideas to local practices. The primary objective is to promote the implementation of United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders (the Bangkok Rules) as well as other United Nations standards and norms related to women and children in contact with the criminal justice system.

 

As a member of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network Institute (UNPNI), TIJ also gears its work towards important cross-cutting issues on the United Nations agenda such as the rule of law, sustainable development, human rights, peace and security. At the same time, it works toward enhancing domestic justice system and the rule-based community within the ASEAN region.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The Project Manager’s key roles are to support the Chief of Programme in planning, administering, implementing, and overseeing all project activities related to themes of the programme, including new projects on women and children in criminal justice, access to justice, and youth crime prevention. The Project Manager will ensure all project activities meet the expectations and goals and are in accordance with the strategies, policies, and regulations of TIJ and applicable law and regulations.

Main Responsibilities

- Plan, manage, and oversee the development and execution of project deliverables and activities, project budgeting, action plans, as well as monitor and report the results to the Chief of Programme and TIJ Managements.

- Plan, prepare, and oversee the submission of project proposal and financial reports and share with the relevant staff of TIJ.

- Maintain and build strategic partnership with key stakeholders, including Royal Thai Police, Department of Special Investigation, Juvenile Observatory and Protection, Juvenile Courts, Office of Supreme Court, Office of Attorney-General, UNICEF, UN Women, UNODC, ASEAN Mechanisms, and relevant civil societies to guarantee the successful implementation of the projects.

- Timely monitor and report situation of crime prevention and criminal justice developments in Thailand and South East Asia to the Chief of Programme, also identify opportunities to support the efforts undertaken by Thai government counterparts and countries in South East Asia.

- Lead, guide, motivate, and work closely with the project team and other relevant staff or consultants of TIJ to ensure that all project activities are undertaken smoothly in accordance with the project proposals, project plan and TIJ strategies.

- Provide technical inputs and advices to team members and project consultants with regards to criminal justice enhancement, including women and children empowerment, juvenile justice, restorative justice, crime prevention, or emerging issues as and when needed.

- Represent TIJ and act as a resource person and speaker in trainings, workshops, and meetings as and when required.

- Review translations commissioned to other team members or other parties. Translate key documents from Thai to English, and vice-versa, as needed.

- Support the Chief of Programme and work on other assignments as required.

 

Qualifications

- A University degree in criminology, or social science, or other similar disciplines is essential

- A Master’s degree in psychological criminology or psychology is a strong asset.

- Fluent in both (written and oral) Thai and English.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management level.

- Knowledge of national legal framework and policy on the rights of children and women, or transnational crimes is desirable.

- Previous work experience with UN agencies, non-government organizations, research network, or criminal justice under thematic issues of children and women is desirable.

- Work experience working directly with vulnerable groups, such as trafficking victims, migrants, female migrants, juvenile offenders, or children at risk.

Skills / Abilities

- Fluent in both (written and oral) Thai and English

- Possess strong team leadership skills and ability to adjust in a multi-cultural environment

- Fluent in both (written and oral) Thai and English

A genuine passion for crime prevention and criminal justice
