Diakonia is a Swedish non-profit and non-political organization for international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Diakonia supports more than 400 partner organisations in 25 countries – in Africa, Asia. Latin America and the Middle East.
The base for Diakonia’s work is people’s will to improve and change the world. Fundamental thematic areas for Diakonia are democracy, gender equity, human rights, conflict and justice and social and economic justice.

The Asia Regional Office is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Diakonia Asia Regional Office is recruiting a Regional Advisor on Communication

Placement: Chiang Mai, Thailand
Duration: 1 year with possible extension
Planned starting date: March 2020
Report to: Regional Director

Are you the one we´re looking for?
We believe that you are a skilled and experienced communicator, passionate about creating innovative, engaging and effective communication to your target audiences. You are used to working independently within a given framework and take responsibility for achieving results. You have very good planning, organizing, reporting and writing skills. As this position includes cooperation with colleagues in the regional and country offices, as well as with staff at Diakonia’s head office in Sweden, you need the capacity to work in teams and be inspirational. Your goal should be to make the work of Diakonia and partners visible, and attract existing and new donors, in Asia region, but also in Sweden together with Head office staff.

The work is under delegation and supervision by the Regional Director and part of the regional team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Update and facilitate implementation of communication plans for Diakonia in Asia.
  • Produce information and fundraising material from Diakonia’s work in Asia in close cooperation with the country offices and the department for communication and fundraising at Diakonia’s Head Office in Stockholm.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement communication in social media and other channels for the fundraising work in Asia and in Sweden
  • Build capacity of staff at the Country offices in communication.
  • Coordinate and serve as the link between Diakonia Head Office, Regional office and Country offices on designated tasks.

Competence and Experience:

  • Higher education in information/communication or similar.
  • Experience from communication work within an organisation, company or other institution.
  • Excellent English writing and speaking skills
  • Long experience of writing and editing texts for different channels and target groups in English.
  • Knowledge of web publishing and social media
  • Good knowledge of photography
  • Good social skills and experience from working in a multicultural setting.

Merits

  • Experience in donor relations, resource mobilization, fundraising.
  • Experience of working as a journalist
  • Knowledge of Diakonia’s thematic areas and development issues.
  • Experience of NGO work.
  • Experience of graphic design and/or film.
  • Knowledge of Swedish

This position is open to Thai nationals and Thailand based expatriates.
