Field Research Assistant – Information Ecosystem Assessment

Contract length: 7 weeks (until May 31)
Background: Internews is seeking to recruit a Field Research Assistant to support the implementation of an Information Ecosystem Assessment (IEA) in Bangkok, Thailand using a mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) approach. The implementation approach will include use of phone surveys, and online platforms including Facebook and LINE. The IEA will explore the communication practices of migrants, with a focus on the access and sharing of information related to COVID-19. The Field Research Assistant will work to support finalization of survey tools; coordination of piloting and implementation of the assessment; conduct interviews and focus group discussions with key informants; and support the analysis and write-ups of final reports.
Scope of Work:
Contribute to the contextualization, development, translation and finalization of quantitative and qualitative questionnaires
Support coordination with translators and interviewers to implement the pilot and scale-up of the assessment
Support the organization and planning of key informant interviews and focus group discussions
Support the collection and cleaning of quantitative and qualitative data
Conduct some key informant interviews with community leaders, influencers, public health and humanitarian agency officials, media representatives and others
Collaborate with key informants to identify further areas of research
Deliver regular reporting to the project team
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors
Required Qualifications
2-3 years of relevant working experience in qualitative research, social science, data analysis, anthropology, or similar
Strong knowledge of the Thai-language social media ecosystem
Some research skills, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies, like Focus Group Discussions, Key Informant Interviews, social media observation and analysis, data visualisation, etc
Fluency in Thai and Burmese
Good speaking, reading, writing skills in English
Experience in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and Excel
Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of humanitarian communications, public health communications, and crisis response techniques considered an asset, particularly related to COVID-19
Graphic design and data visualization skills and knowledge of relevant software to produce info-graphics is a plus
Strong software skills to ensure proper design and lay-out of the regular reports
Knowledge of other languages from CLMV countries a plus
Self-motivated and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Strong understanding of, and commitment towards editorial values of the project
