Internews is seeking a Humanitarian Data Analyst to support two-way communication with the population at risk for COVID-19 in Thailand and potentially other countries in the region. The Data Analyst will help identify and understand hyper-local information needs that are not solely concerned with health behaviours, and can identify, discuss, analyse, and mitigate rumours and misinformation related to COVID-19 arising at local levels.

The Humanitarian Data Analyst (HDA) will ensure qualitative data is documented in a consistent and continuous way, through community engagement activities like social media monitoring, online listening groups, messaging apps, interactions with frontline aid workers, local media and/or any other online channels that are influential in the narrative about the virus. The HDA will also be responsible for collating, processing and analysing feedback with a focus on the concerns, fears and hopes that are behind the rumours and drive misinformation, support the Internews team and its partners to address misinformation with “news you can use” and write feedback reports for humanitarian partners to inform decision-making and improve information provision with timely, locally relevant and reliable information people trust.

Scope of Work:

  • Support feedback gathering by Internews staff and partners by evaluating methodology and suggesting improvements where necessary
  • Provide input into the editorial process by providing regular updates to the Managing Editor and the production team on recurrent or emerging topics and trends
  • Work with relevant counterparts in the region to inform wider analysis and look for opportunities to make the collected information useful for service providers on the ground.
  • Produce regular Humanitarian Feedback Bulletins for humanitarian partners to improve their understanding of the concerns and questions living among the affected population
  • Support Monitoring and Evaluation activities to assess impact, reach and quality of the on-going project
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisors

Qualifications

  • Strong in qualitative data analysis, research and information management in fast-changing humanitarian contexts
  • Strong understanding of the humanitarian principles to ensure data collection and provision follows the Core Humanitarian Standards and information can sourced in a timely manner among partners on the ground
  • Relevant experience working with data collection & analysis software, including Kobo Toolbox, excel and similar software.
  • Strong writing skills to ensure Humanitarian Bulletins are accurate and incorporate humanitarian principles and editorial guidelines.
  • Good understanding of COVID-19 and or other health emergencies
  • Strong understanding of the local context
  • Strong English language skills – reading, writing and communication
  • Native or Fluent Thai Language skills
  • Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values .

Desirable:

  • Data visualization skills and knowledge of relevant software to produce info-graphics is a plus
  • Strong software skills to ensure proper design and lay-out of the regular reports
  • Knowledge of other languages widely spoken in Southeast Asia is a plus
  • Self-motivated and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of, and commitment towards editorial values of the project
