Purpose of the role:
To respond to our changing world and to build a truly global human rights movement, Amnesty International Thailand is shifting the way we work to support more people to know, claim and enjoy their human rights. We are determined to explore innovative ways to engage and influence and understand the power of digital as well as traditional media in reaching this goal. We are now looking for Media and Communications Officer who has a sound understanding of integrated communications and media relations works to enhance our work on protecting and promoting human rights. The post-holder will be responsible to support the delivery of Amnesty International Thailand’s communications, in line with the organization’s communication strategy and the strategic goals of Amnesty International global movement. An important part of this role is to support, develop and implement media and communications strategy for the organization in an integrated way to thrive on campaigns impacts and increasing members and fundraising.
Main responsibilities
- To support implementation of media strategies, tactics and messages to achieve maximum measurable impact on Amnesty profile.
- Implement a media relations programme which includes pro-active media liaison; pitching Amnesty stories and spokespeople; organizing interviews; providing media briefings; drafting press releases; and responding to media requests and monitor and evaluate media coverage.
- To support formulation of background notes, speeches and talking points for public appearances.
- To compile and classify related information, including pictures, press lists, media monitoring services, news clipping, online broadcast video delivery services, etc.
- To support and work with the Digital Communications officer to develop and implement a social media strategy aligned with the Organizational Communications Strategy and support to update website and provide editorial support to web-content development.
- Keep up to date with new trends, developments and opportunities in the digital space and recommend how we can exploit them to help achieve our corporate goals and implement them.
- Collaborate with colleagues/other departments of Amnesty to generate and create innovative digital and multimedia products that will appeal to specific audiences.
- Work with various departmental teams to ensure that the communications activities calendar is kept up to date and is applied for weekly planning in consultation with the Media and Communications Manager.
- To support the development of high-quality content and dissemination of external newsletters.
- Develop high-level content for corporate communications products such as PowerPoints, fact sheets and other relevant materials.
- Flexibility and adaptability to perform other duties as and when requested by the Manager of the media and communications department.
Essential qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in the field related to Mass Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a communications role.
Technical knowledge and skills:
- Good understanding of traditional and digital communications and how to harness it, as well as experience in evaluating success using online evaluation platforms
- Sound understanding of human rights
- Excellent IT knowledge and skills, and preferably with graphic design knowledge and skills
- Proficiency in design and publishing software. (InDesign/Photoshop/Canva).
- Journalistic, editorial and copywriting

- Good command of both spoken and written Thai and English

Main relationships
Reports to: Media and Communications Manager
Supervise roles: Volunteers and/or interns
Other relevant relationships: Work closely with Media and Communications Manager, Digital Communications Officer and the Campaign team and the Growth and Development team in planning and executing communications work to Amnesty’s target audience.
