Background/IRC Summary:


The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.

 

Job Overview/Summary:

 

The Community Health Assistant will assist the Community Health Officer in all activities related to program planning and implementation of Health Promotion and Prevention initiatives, including translation and cross-checking, development of videos in local languages, material production, and LLITNs and soap distribution.

 

Major Responsibilities:


• Assist Community Health Officer to participate in survey activities including KAP, exit interview and male involvement on family planning activities.
• Assist Community Health Officer to conduct relevant trainings and health promotion campaigns in camps
• Assist Community Health Officer to develop Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on health topics with appropriate pictures for the illiterate peoples as well as develop visual aids for new CHWs.
• Assist Community Health Officer to conduct initial and refresher training for camp-based community health workers
• Assist Community Health Officer to oversee and supervise camp-based community health workers for the material request and maintenance including audio-visual equipment.
• Assist Community Health Officer to conduct EPI activity and EPI tool per the schedule.
• Assist Community Health Officer to support nutrition activity with SFP report data.
• Work closely with CHWs and EH team to conduct education session and campaign on hand washing and KAP surveys to improve hand washing and hygiene practices.
• Assist Community Health Officer in procurement process of hygiene materials and distribution in community.
• Translate records and reports of CHW monthly activities and other documents relating to the Community Health Project as needed
• Assist Community Health Officer in organize meetings with the community representatives and leaders to ensure community participation and the smooth implementation of the community health project as appropriate.
• Distribute IRC health education materials to target community, and keep track of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials stock.
• Other assignment as require from health team

 

Key Working Relationships:


Position Reports to: Community Health Officer
Other Internal and/or external contacts:
Internal: IRC Operations team, Health team, EH team
External: MoPH, Community

 

Job Requirements:


Education: Bachelor’s Degree or high school


Work Experience: Minimum 1 years working experience in refugee camp in health program

 

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:


• Professional demeanors.
• Positive attitude toward mental health and psychosocial issue.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working with multicultural staff.
• Skill and knowledge on video shooting and editing
• Good organizational skills

 

Language Skills: Fluency in English and Thai, Burmese or Karen is a plus


Certificates or Licenses: Community Health Certificate is a plus


Working Environment:

 

The position will be based in Mae Sot District, Tak Province a town in the North of Thailand, with frequent and regular travel to the 3 refugee camps in TAK.
