The IUF Asia/Pacific is urgently seeking enthusiastic, hard-working and committed persons to fill the following position, based in Thailand:
Workers’ Rights Communications Officer
The Workers’ Rights Communications Officer will assist trade union organizations in developing education and training programs for Thai workers to raise awareness of their rights. An important part of this role is to assist in developing the capacity of trade unions based in Thailand, to defend their members’ rights and increase membership.
The Workers’ Rights Communications Officer will communicate with migrant workers, mainly from Myanmar and Cambodia, to raise awareness of their rights.
In addition, the Workers’ Rights Communications Officer will assist with interviews and documentation of business, working conditions and rights violations and where required be involved in the advocacy to remedy rights violations.
The Workers’ Rights Communications Officer will be required to interpret English – Thai in meeting/conference/seminar, to translate documents into Thai and English, and write regular reports on activities in English.
The position is open to Thai nationals.
Newly graduates are welcome to apply. A background in the study of gender and development, psychology, environment, industrial engineer, agriculture, ecology or human rights would be an advantage but not necessary.
Knowledge of any language in ASEAN countries is also considered as an advantage.
Experience in paid or voluntary work in human rights paralegal service, assisting migrant workers or refugees in Thailand would be welcome.
Candidates should be fluent in English with very good writing skills. Experience in research and report writing in English is required, as well as very good communication skills.
Candidates should be able to work under pressure, exhibit discipline in their approach to work and ensure the accuracy and integrity of their interview results, case studies and data collection.
Candidates should be able to travel within Thailand and neighboring countries with work assignments.
Furthermore, candidates should be committed to human rights, gender equality, climate and social justice, with a view to improving the lives and well-being of working people.
