Young Health Programme NCD Seminar Event Organizer
Young Health Programme Thailand
I. Introduction
The Young Health Programme (YHP) is a global initiative that supports and promotes the health and well-being of young people (aged 10 – 24) in marginalized communities worldwide through research, advocacy and on-the-ground programmes focused on the intervention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Since 2010, Plan International has implemented the YHP in Zambia, Brazil, India, Kenya, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar.
The Young Health Programme (YHP) focuses on the five main risk factors leading to NCDs as identified by the World Health Organization (WHO); tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and air pollution. In addressing the health needs of young people, the YHP takes a holistic approach which mainstreams gender equality and also addresses sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and mental health. The programme will engage strategies including youth empowerment through peer education, community mobilization, health service strengthening and advocacy.
Plan International has expanded this programme into the city of Bangkok and Samut Prakarn, Thailand, where NCDs pose a significant health threat. The programme aims to prevent and reduce the risk factors which can lead to NCDs, as well as supporting the broader health and rights of the young people. The proposed programme will learn from and build on Plan International’s experience of implementing the YHP for the past ten years, as well as experience implementing a broad range of global health programme.
