Position Title               : Senior Project Assistant (Private Sector Capacity Building)

Duty Station                :  Bangkok, Thailand

Classification              :  General Service (G-7, THB 109,232.92 per month)

Type of Appointment  :  One Year Fixed-Term Contract

Initial 12 months with possibility of extension

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes and the Partnerships & Programme Coordinator, and under the direct supervision of the National Private Sector Engagement Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support related to the implementation of capacity building activities on migration, business and human rights for private sector actors. The incumbent can expect to be engaged 40% of the time on delivering capacity building activities while 60% supporting overall IOM’s private sector engagement and other activities.   

 

2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop and implement streamlined administrative procedures and processes for the efficient planning, coordination, and implementation of capacity building activities on migration, business and human rights that comply with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Deliver capacity building activities on migration, business and human rights topics (ethical recruitment, decent work, access to remedy) to private sector actors. Tailor training materials for private sector actors in different industries and countries.
  • Monitor supplier progress and provide technical support in addressing the challenges raised by supply chain actors.
  • Develop training guidelines for private sector actors and other IOM staff involved in supply chain capacity building.
  • In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, establish and maintain a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to assess the effectiveness and impact of capacity building programs and provide feedback for continuous improvement. Identify challenges in training rollout and implement process improvements.
  • Assist to monitor logistical arrangements, including venue selection, participant registration, travel arrangements, and accommodation, to implement a smooth training delivery process.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans to disseminate information about capacity building programs, including training schedules, application processes, and program updates.
  • Collaborate with IOM's Finance and Procurement departments to manage budgeting, financial reporting, and procurement processes related to capacity building initiatives.
  • Draft regular progress reports, project updates, talking points, and briefing materials related to supplier capacity building and private sector engagement as needed.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, industry associations, and private sector entities.
  • Assist the Labour Mobility Unit in the implementation of other initiatives, including factory assessments, direct assistance to migrant workers, multi-stakeholder workshops, development of research reports, guidelines, and tools, among others.
  • Perform such other duties and travel as may be assigned. 

 

3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma with seven years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of Social Sciences, Law, Sustainability, International Development or a related field from an accredited academic institution with minimum of five years of relevant professional experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Solid experience in training programme implementation.
  • Demonstrated success in capacity building, training, and workshops for the private sector.
  • Experience in assessing companies located in different countries and in different industries is an advantage.
  • Experience in monitoring improvement plan status and progress from labour and human rights assessments is an advantage.
  • Experience in drafting regular status and progress report
  • Experience working with Government counterparts, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, and/or private sector is considered an asset.

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of local labour standards and international standards on business and human rights
  • Knowledge of labor migration and a broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization
  • Knowledge of ethical trading practices, management systems on labour rights, and due diligence on responsible business conduct
  • Strong understanding of auditing principles, processes, and standards.  Experience in conducting audits and assessments related to labour and migration compliance is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of country and industry risks related to labour and human rights
  • Strong quantitative business analysis skills, attention to detail, and high level of accuracy
  • Advanced or intermediate excel skills and strong communication skills

 

4. LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in English and Thai is required (oral and written).
  • Working knowledge of French and Spanish is desirable.
