  1. Background

The program ‘Marine Litter Prevention Through Reduction, Sustainable Design and Recycling of Plastic Packaging (MA-RE-DESIGN) or New Approached to Tackling the Plastic Waste Challenges in Thai Tourism and Local Municipalities (NAPTAM)’ aims at reducing plastic waste leakage into the sea in Thailand, with the goal to stop the plastic leakage into nature by 2030. As aligned with this strategy, the Plastic Smart Cities established to implement the regional project in the 5 countries: Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Thailand. The key objective is to reduce plastic waste leaking into nature through strategies: (1) Policy, (2) Corporate Engagement, (3) Education and Communication and (4) Citizen Science. The Plastic Smart Cities project of WWF-Thailand is currently implementing in many cities in the south and engaging with diverse stakeholders to develop and adapt scalable action-programs to stop plastic waste pollution and transit to a circular economy.

 

  1. Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the Plastic Pollution Free Cities (Plastic Smart Cities) in planning, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the project progress.
  • Supervise technical, field coordinators, finance and administrative staff to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Manage contracts with subcontracted consultants, vendors, and suppliers by developing ToR, assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
  • Coordinate with local governments, local communities, other stakeholders to provide project updates on a consistent basis about strategy, action plans, adjustments, and progress.
  • Support local governments in developing Plastic Action Plans as well as the implementation of the Plastic Action Plans. Monitor the progress and make adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate with ESSF team by providing information and technical support about safeguards risk analysis and strategy and action plans for the activities.
  • Collaborate with communication team by providing information to promote project activities, accomplishments, and related campaigns.
  • Collaborate with corporate engagement team by providing information and technical support about circular economy to business sector.
  • Develop project proposals for urban and plastic projects to be funded by the WWF Network, corporate sponsors, or other donors as required.
  • Finalize project work plans and budgets to be successfully implemented, including all reporting (technical progress report and annual report) as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

  1. Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineer, environmental technology, environmental management, chemistry science, ecology, natural resource management or other related fields required.
  • Experience seeing projects through the full life cycle. Strong analytical skills.
  • 1 year experience working on plastic pollution or waste management with local governments and communities.
  • 3 years managing conservation or environmental project and proposal development.
  • 1 year coordinating with government, business, academic, public sectors and other NGOs.
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget and timeline.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Strong ability to solve problems creatively
  • Fluent communication in Thai and English. Knowledge of GIZ grant is preferable
  • Ability to travel on field.

 

  1. Working Relationships

Internal

  • WWF-TH Plastic Smart Cities Project Team - Supervise the plastic team on progress/challenges of plastic free cities work.
  • WWF-TH Environmental Education Team - Collaborate with environmental education team to incorporate with plastic smart cities work.
  • WWF-TH Finance Team - Prepare form and provide any financial work to align with project activities.
  • WWF-TH Corporate Engagement Team - Provide technical support and promote circular economy with corporate partners.
  • WWF-TH Communication Team - Provide information on project activities, accomplishment, and related campaign.
  • WWF-TH ESSF Team – Provide information about safeguards risk analysis and support mitigation activities
  • WWF Network Plastic Pollution Free Cities Team - Update progress and share success/opportunities with the Network cities team.

External

  • Government Agencies - Work with cities and other government agencies to influence policies as needed.
  • Universities/International Organizations - Coordinate with experts to develop method on waste collecting, analysis and monitoring data.
  • Partners – corporates/other organizations - Forge fruitful partnership with other organizations working on similar issues.
