Introduction Bring The Elephant Home

The Asian elephant, a keystone species, is threatened with extinction as deforestation has destroyed much of its habitat, food supply and migration routes. To survive, elephants often search for food and water outside of protected areas, resulting in conflicts between elephants and people. Over the last three generations, a population decline of at least 50% has been estimated, with a current population of less than 40,000 wild Asian elephants.

Bring The Elephant Home’s mission is to ensure the well-being and survival of elephants, contribute to socio-ecological resilience, and work towards a world in which people and elephants can thrive. Our community-based conservation strategy, developed over more than a decade, integrates the diverse values of elephants, and implements solutions that provide mutually beneficial outcomes for people, elephants and the environment. Our projects are inclusive and promote shared decision-making, ownership, sustainability, equality, pride, and partnerships. We believe that when local people take ownership of conservation efforts, lasting positive change will happen.

The Tom Yum project (launched in August 2020) promotes human-elephant coexistence near Kuiburi National Park in Thailand by supporting farmers to grow plants that are disliked by elephants, such as chillies, lemongrass, galangal, lime, kaffir lime, and other aromatic plants. The project helps to diversify local livelihoods for rural people by harvesting the yield of these alternative crops.

Your role

As we enter the next phase of the project, we are now looking for a dynamic and dedicated Agriculture-Coexistence Manager.

Do you have experience in agricultural management? Are you passionate about regenerative farming and fair trade? If so, you might be the ideal candidate to join our team as the Agriculture-Coexistence Manager.

This position offers an exciting and diverse range of activities for a Thai resident, which includes:

  • Recruiting and supporting new farmers in their transition to alternative crops by co-facilitating community workshops, engaging with stakeholders, and delivering presentations in both Thai and/or English.
  • Facilitating connections between farmers and viable markets for alternative crops and overseeing the logistics process from farm to factory.
  • Managing seedling production at the Tom Yum nursery, as well as managing other cultivation resources required for alternative crops, and ensuring fair distribution to farmers.
  • Collection of economic and ecological data in agricultural landscapes and contributing to a comprehensive report on the economic and ecological potential of alternative crops.
  • Collaborating closely with our dedicated local teams in Ruam Thai and Yan Sue village, the BTEH team, as well as our valued partners both within Thailand and internationally.

This role promises an enriching experience in sustainable agricultural practices, community engagement, and project coordination, contributing to positive change for elephants, farmers, and the environment. If you are passionate about making a real difference in realising human elephant-coexistence in Thailand, we encourage you to apply and become a vital part of our team.

Your qualifications

  • Graduate qualifications in a related discipline (agricultural science, supply chain management, community resource management, environmental science)
  • Experience in farming and/or fair trade
  • Experience in creating accurate and structured financial reports
  • Demonstrated management skills, including the ability to plan and meet deadlines
  • Thai resident and fluent in Thai
  • Good communication skills in Thai and English
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel and/or equivalent programs to generate sales reports and manage logistics.

BTEH can provide a motorcycle. The candidate must make their own housing arrangements, however, BTEH's field team can support the candidate by introducing them to several available options.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their CV and motivation letter to support@bteh.org before August 15. For more information about the organization and the position, please visit
