Junior Animal Welfare Officer

Location: Bangkok, Thailand

Salary: Competitive package

Contact: 40 hours per week

Main Purpose of the role

This role provides technical and project administrative support to Grantees of World Animal Protection, as part of our Investing in Others Programme. Within World Animal Protections’ Global Farming programme area.  The position works within the core team of the Animal Welfare Advisor (Investing in Others, and the IiO Southeast Asia - Project Manager with the smooth implantation and monitoring of our grantee project to achieve transformational campaigns that deliver a lasting systemic impact for animals. 

 

The role provides support on defined deliverables relating to information management, data collection and documentation, actively participating in project planning and execution, and any other assigned tasks from Animals Welfare Advisor-Investing in Others, and with the Investing in Others-in Southeast Asia - Project Manager. 

 

The post holder will need to manage their time effectively, be creative with appropriate problem-solving skills.  The role holder will work with external contacts and partners. They will also be required to represent the organisation at events and platforms, and where possible attend face-to-face meetings with grantees across the region. 

 

Accountabilities

  • Support external relationships with our grantees, to ensure collaboration, effectiveness and learning.  
  • Provide information and support relating to the specific programme area and animal solutions projects, to ensure that campaigns/projects are informed by and capable of Meeting each of the defined project outcomes. 
  • Provide robust and cutting-edge information on animal sentience/welfare to shape and inform strategic campaign and programmatic priorities, and to ensure our communications engage all audiences, including our partners, the media and supporters. 
  • The role holder will comply with the organizations policies and procedures. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Functional  

  • Provide information management using World Animal Protection’s data platform to ensure grantee progress and learning is captured. 
  • Work alongside the Animal Welfare Advisor, and IiO Project Manager to ensure technical capacity building on farmed animal welfare to all grantees within the IiO programme and support broader learning across the wider projects. 
  • Support Animal Welfare Advisor, and IiO Project Manager to manage external relationships with stakeholders and partners engaged on animal welfare issues and with other relevant institutions and Intergovernmental Organizations influential to the delivery of campaign strategies.  
  • Support the development and coordination of technical animal welfare issues and policy relating to the programme area, ensuring agreed policy frameworks are in place to support campaign delivery and to develop policy positions on issues reactively as necessary.
  • Contribute to innovative practical animal welfare projects which can help World Animal Protection to articulate the importance of animal welfare particularly in relation to our organizational vision and strategic priorities. 

 

Organisational responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with external organisations, teams within World Animal Protection and in the wider animal welfare movement to pursue programme objectives and wider organisational goals, including those relating to brand, communications, fundraising and resource management. 
  • Actively participate in building our brand and maintain the integrity of our brand to support our profile, lead generation, income and engagement. 
  • Contribute to a learning culture and create a positive working environment for staff.  
  • The role holder will from time to time be required to undertake any other duties that are within the scope of this role. 
  • Take responsibility for their own health, safety and welfare, comply with H&S policy and procedures, and not act in any way that compromises the safety of themselves, colleagues or the public.   
  • The post holder will be required to travel regionally to provide support or participate to IiO grantees and other World Animal Protection’s activities as and when required. 
  • The post holder will be required to maintain confidentiality of information  

 

Skills and Experience

Essential 

  • Experienced in the issues relating to farmed animal welfare. With a relevant qualification and/or equivalent experience in an animal welfare or similar organization, or with animals, i.e., a higher degree in a relevant topic or a veterinary qualification. 
  • Able to collect and analyse technical information timely and accurately to effectively inform campaign tactics and strategies. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Team player with project management and coordination skills, good verbal, written and presentation skills, including English language writing skills 
  • Fluence in using common Office IT programmes  
  • Works well under the pressure of deadlines.  
  • Flexible to undertake regional travel.  
  • A passion for animal welfare and a strong commitment to the aims and values of World Animal protection. 

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the animal welfare context of Southeast Asia 
  • Experience collecting and analysing information and translating complex information into clear communications.
  • Experienced working with colleagues and external stakeholders in multicultural environments.  
  • Experienced working in an international organization, International NGO, and campaign environment. 
  • High level of awareness of global and regional social, economic, political and environmental issues relevant to animal welfare.
