The International Republican Institute (IRI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that has supported capacity building programs in Thailand since 2011. IRI is seeking a Local Program Officer in its Bangkok office to assist with the implementation of its democratic development programs.
Qualifications desired:
- Thai national;
- Fluent in Thai and English;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Undergraduate or graduate degree and strong interest in public policy, government, social sciences, international relations or a related field;
- Strong understanding of Thailand’s government, political system and civil society community;
- Experience in political situation analysis;
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team to coordinate in-person and online events with members of local civil society organizations; and
- Experience and/or interest in program monitoring and evaluation.
Primary Functions & Responsibilities:
- Establishes, maintains, and develops strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders.
- Monitors, analyzes and reports on political and related developments in Thailand to provide regional and country analysis and information.
- Understand assigned grant’s substantive, financial and compliance requirements.
- Anticipates potential problems and trouble shoots project problems and offers solutions and actively takes part to lead resolution of them with creative and immediate solutions.
- Oversees implementation of specific grant(s) and associated grant activities.
- Maintains an understanding of funder and IRI policies and procedures related to grant compliance and oversight.
- Understands assigned grant’s substantive, financial and compliance requirements.
- Supports efforts to ensure that grants are in compliance with grant agreements and completed on time.
- Drafts funder reports to ensure high quality quarterly, semi-annual, final and other program related reports to DC.
- Directly support the MEL coordinator and program staff in the development and drafting of M&E components for program activities, M&E plan and data collection tools.
- Provide staff with guidance on tools, methods and technologies to support programmatic data collections needs and reporting.
- Develops and coordinates new program ideas.
- Organize meetings and briefings with national and local government officials, civil society leaders, political party members and other stakeholders.
- Represents IRI at external events.
- Assist IRI’s capacity building and research activities, including workshops, briefings, stakeholder mapping exercises, exchanges and dialogue forums.
- Travel as needed for program oversight and implementation.
- Manage program assistants to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Attend work during normal business hours as described in the IRI office manual.
- Will not share IRI materials, notes, or contacts with any individual or group outside of IRI unless specifically approved by the RPD.
- Other duties as specified by Resident Program Director or Resident Program Officer.
Salary for this position is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. Limited travel within and around Thailand is required. The IRI Bangkok office is located 10 minutes from BTS Nana Station with parking available.
