Curriculum Designer and/or Textbook Writer and Editor

About Mote Oo

Mote Oo Education (established 2013) is a locally-registered organisation specialising in creating teacher training programmes and quality educational materials for teachers of adults and young adults. We have a proven track record of producing high quality, engaging books and training for the non-formal adult education sector in Myanmar. We engage with 200+ partner organisations in the post-secondary sector and relevant community-based training organisations, supporting them in developing education programming to match their needs and context.

Our Curriculum Department has a staff of three: A manager and an education designer, and a current vacancy for either a curriculum or textbook specialist. We will hire one of these positions.

 

Key Tasks: Curriculum Designer

The Curriculum Designer position is based in Yangon, with occasional travel to neighbouring countries. The Curriculum Designer will work closely with Mote Oo’s Teacher Training Department and partner organisations.

Main duties include:

  • Designing, developing and assisting partners with implementation of curricula.
  • Designing and implementing assessment of partners’ curriculum needs.
  • Review and evaluation of Mote Oo’s teaching and learning resources.
  • Training partner organisations on theory and practice of curriculum development
  • Interpreting English language workshops on curriculum and related topics.
  • Translation of training and workshop materials from English to Burmese
  • Representing Mote Oo’s Curriculum Department an internal and external meetings, conferences and workshops.

 

Desired Attributes: Curriculum Designer

We are looking for a self-starting, resourceful and reliable curriculum specialist with experience working in the non-profit education sector in Myanmar.

  • Fluency in Burmese language, and professional working proficiency in English (B2/C1). Other languages used in Myanmar a bonus.
  • Familiarity with curriculum design theory and processes.
  • Significant experience as a teacher or trainer, online teaching/training experience desirable.
  • Proficiency with a range of common computer apps, including the Microsoft Office and Googledoc suites, basic design and layout skills a bonus.
  • Familiarity with basic budgeting and financial protocols and processes.
  • Be a people-person, confident working in a multicultural setting.
  • Report writing experience.
  • Independent and self-motivated, but also happy working as a team member.
  • Commitment to inclusion, diversity and non-discrimination.
  • High level of communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Myanmar where possible, and comfortable to stay in low-resource environments.
  • A qualification in education, social science or related topics, from a university or post-secondary programme, or equivalent relevant experience.

 

Key Tasks: Textbook Writer and Editor

The Textbook Writer and Editor position involves travel between Myanmar and Thailand, and works closely with partner organisations in the region.

Main duties include:

  • Participating in Mote Oo’s textbook development process. This includes research, writing content and tasks, editing for language level and pedagogical appropriateness, and proofreading in English language.
  • Designing and implementing assessment of partners’ curriculum needs.
  • Review and evaluation of Mote Oo’s teaching and learning resources.
  • Supporting partner organisations in implementing subject curriculum and teaching and learning materials in their schools and training workshops.
  • Developing and implementing face to face and online training workshops in subject-area teaching methodology, depending on subject area expertise.
  • Representing Mote Oo’s Curriculum Department an internal and external meetings, conferences and workshops.

 

Desired Attributes: Textbook Writer and Editor

We are looking for a self-starting, resourceful and reliable textbook enthusiast with experience working in the non-profit education sector in Myanmar or low-resource contexts in Southeast Asia.

  • Professional working proficiency in English (C2). Fluency in languages used in Myanmar and/or Thailand a bonus.
  • Familiarity with textbook development processes.
  • Significant experience as a teacher or trainer, online teaching/training experience desirable.
  • Proficiency with a range of common computer apps, including the Microsoft Office and Googledoc suites, basic design and layout skills a bonus.
  • A close eye for detail.
  • Be a people-person, confident working in a multicultural setting.
  • Report and proposal writing experience. Project management experience a bonus.
  • Independent and self-motivated, but also happy working as a team member.
  • Commitment to inclusion, diversity and non-discrimination.
  • High level of communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Myanmar and regionally where possible, and comfortable to stay in low-resource environments,
  • A qualification in education, social science or related topics, from a university or post-secondary programme, or equivalent relevant experience. Ideal specialisations include the environment, teacher education, organisational development or life and learning skills.

 

Salary and Benefits

  • The full-time pay rate for both these jobs is in line with local salary rates. Please do not apply should you need more than this, as we operate on a tight budget.
  • We will consider a part-time commitment, with commensurate salary.
  • All work-related costs covered, including work-related travel, visas and necessary equipment.
