Main role:
- Using the Steps five year roadmap as a basis, set the vision for Steps communications output
- Oversee brand transformation as the organisation moves towards a new identity as an inclusion innovation hub for the SE Asia region
- Consolidate the the image of Steps as a leading innovation and education centre for neurodivergent people among key partners and the public
- Oversee resourcing and budget for the communications unit, including assembling a skilled communications team
- Act as champion and guardian of Steps brand across the organisation
- Lead on development and implementation of Steps’ communications strategy
- Work with Communications Manager to ensure smooth processes are in place for the delivery of communications materials
- Work with Communications Manager to consistently develop and improve the quality and clarity of Steps communications materials
- Embed a culture of belonging, motivation and development across the communications unit
- Act as a point of contact for the organisation on communications best practice
- Foster strong, collaborative working relationships with staff at every level of the organisation
In addition to the above, the Comms Director will spend time with the CEO by attending key meetings and events to be aware of ongoing projects and develop further knowledge about the mission and services of the organisation.
Person specification
- Proven work experience as a Communications Director or similar role
- At least five years’ experience of managing a communications team in a medium to large organisation
- Proven track record of implementing effective processes and quality control resulting in outstanding communication materials
- Experience of formulating and implementing brand strategy
- Ability to build strong teams and excellent working relationships
- Willingness to work under pressure to tight deadlines
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies
- Understanding of principles of UX, copywriting, videography, graphic design, layout and publishing
- Familiarity with email marketing, social media platforms and social media marketing
- Impeccable copywriting and copy editing abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or a related discipline is preferred
Desirable
- Experience of communications work related to public affairs/policy influence/government liaison
- Experience of communications related to academic research
- Experience of change management
- Experience of overseeing a rebrand
- Native English speaker or bilingual
