Mathematics Secondary Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:       Mathematics Secondary Teacher  

Location:       Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand

Travel Requirements: Domestic

Length of Contract:  Probationary period of 3 months, with a 3-month extension. Annual renewable contract thereafter depending on monitoring and evaluation

Responsibilities

• This position is primarily for teaching Mathematics at the Upper Secondary level
• Plan lessons and submit lesson plans that can be used to help future teachers in their preparation
• Attend teacher training
• Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment
• Organize supplies and resources for classes and present receipts for reimbursement of expenses
• Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning
• Evaluate and document students’ progress
• Allocate and grade homework, assignments, and tests and maintain records of student’s progress
• Act as a role model for students aspiring to higher education

General                  

• Other ad-hoc duties as needed

Position Requirements

Education

• Degree in teaching or relevant field from a university or equivalent level   certification
• Bachelor’s degree in teaching or a relevant field from an international university

Work Experience         

• Teaching experience
• Experience in school or learning center registration

Skills/Knowledge/Aptitude 

• In-depth knowledge of teaching methods for science and mathematics
• Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
• Computer literacy, knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
• Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills

Language(s)  

• English proficiency    
• Basic Thai speaking skills
• Burmese or Karen an advantage

Motivation    

• Special interest in improving the life of border children
• Interest in alternative education
• Self-motivated, and a self–starter but able to work as part of a team
• Demonstrated resourcefulness        

Other 

• Familiarity with the border context, preferably the Thailand-Myanmar border
• Special interest in improving the works of grassroots organizations
