Bring The Elephant Home

Organization:               Foundation Bring The Elephant Home

Start date:                    February 1, 2024 

Position:                       Full-time

Contract:                      1 year (3 months probation, opportunity to extend)

Based in:                      On-site in Ruam Thai, Kui Buri, Prachuap Khiri Khan.

                                      One week of remote work per month is possible.

 

Introduction Bring The Elephant Home

Bring The Elephant Home is dedicated to ensuring the well-being and survival of Asian elephants, fostering socio-ecological resilience, and striving for a world where both elephants and people can thrive. Our community-based conservation approach, developed over a decade, emphasizes shared decision-making, sustainability, equality, and partnerships. Through our projects, we promote human-elephant coexistence by supporting farmers in elephant-friendly livelihoods and land use, contributing to meaningful coexistence between elephants and people.

 

Your Role

As the Conservation Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating various conservation initiatives in Ruam Thai village, Prachuap Khiri Khan. Your role will focus on stakeholder management, planning and implementation of human-elephant coexistence strategies in communities surrounding Kuiburi National Park, and contributing to community-based conservation solutions such as beehive fences and alternative crop cultivation. This position requires strong organizational and research skills, excellent communication, a passion for fieldwork and wildlife conservation, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

 

Your responsibilities include:

 

Conservation Action & Research

  • General management of staff, ensuring efficient reporting and communication with stakeholders and funding partners for BTEH’s elephant conservation & research projects.
  • Deploy a series of camera traps to investigate elephant behaviour and individual identification,  coordinating data collection and managing the online database, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Develop strategies, timelines and budgets for various conservation initiatives, actively monitoring their effectiveness, and engaging local people in a community-based approach.

 

Stakeholder Management

  • Represent BTEH in high-level meetings, conferences, webinars, and site visits with key stakeholders, ensuring effective representation of the organization's mission and goals.
  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, actively engaging in local stakeholder meetings, and cultivating positive relations and collaboration with a diverse range of partners, including DNP, universities, government agencies, and NGOs.
  • Contribute strategic insights to enhance stakeholder engagement strategies, ensuring alignment with BTEH's conservation objectives.

 

Communication

  • Prepare and deliver quarterly project reports in Thai and English to multi-level stakeholders, funders and collaborators.
  • Contribute content for various platforms, including BTEH's online channels, annual reports, and reports for funders.
  • Create communication materials that effectively convey BTEH's conservation efforts, fostering public awareness and support.

 

Your qualifications

  • Master's degree in conservation biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management, preferably in a conservation context.
  • Strong organizational, project management and communication skills.
  • Experience with conservation research techniques, including developing research methods, data analysis, and camera trapping.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills in dynamic environments. Experience in creating management reports, including data visualization.
  • Thai resident with fluency in Thai and English.
  • Must hold a valid driving license and be able to drive on off-road terrain.
